FILMWEST PROFESSIONAL FILMMAKING WORKSHOP SERIES
AT OLD TUCSON STUDIOS

Hollywood and Local Film Industry Veterans train future film and television production personnel in Tucson.

July 10, 2006) ---Due to the runaway success of its first three film production workshops, FilmWest will continue to offer its series to Arizona film and television apprentices throughout the Summer of 2006. The curriculum of the “immersion” style workshop series is designed to introduce a variety of entry-level production training to people with little or no film experience. The workshops are being lead by veteran industry professionals both from Arizona and Hollywood.
The workshops are sponsored by FilmWest, the major motion picture production house based at Old Tucson Studios, and other organizations and people involved in film and television production throughout Arizona. Michelle Hartly, the CEO of FilmWest, believes that “the workshop has struck a chord with people interested in working on motion pictures here in Arizona. The response from the students and the community has been truly outstanding.” Hartly supports expanding the infrastructure and crew base here in Arizona which will attract more production to Arizona. Bringing big-time production to Arizona will mean more jobs for Arizonans and expanded economic development from production “trickle-down” spending.

In January 2006, the Arizona state legislature passed a film tax incentive package but in order to receive the transferable income tax credit and exemption from sales tax, production companies must employ a specific percentage of Arizonans. The workshop series is designed to add new qualified talent to the existing production talent already living here in Arizona. The amount of credit is based on the sum of production costs paid in the state. FilmWest controls a majority of the remaining state approved incentives which are earmarked for certain productions set to begin filming soon in Arizona.

Registration begins at 9am and the workshop hours are 10am-6pm. Lunch will be served. Old Tucson Studios is located at 201 S. Kinney Road in Tucson, Arizona. Admission is $75.00/$65.00 for students.
