Made possible, in part, through the generous support of Dr. Bella Eibensteiner

“Cookin' with Gus” brings together four unlikely characters in a stew of hi-jinks and hilarity. Gussie is a famous food columnist and cookbook author. She has been offered her own TV cooking show – the only trouble is, she is deathly afraid of speaking in front of the camera. Everybody tries to help her get over it…Walter through hypnotism, Bernie her agent by threats, and even wacky Gypsy Carmen from next door casts spells.  Just when she thinks she is cured, the taping turns into a comic nightmare!

"COOKIN' WITH GUS is a hilarious comedy you won't want to miss!"   The Enterprise

Tucson: To All Artists, Borderlands 2 for 1 tickets to "Conjunto"

-----Original Message-----
From: bltheater@aol.com [mailto:bltheater@aol.com]
Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2006 3:48 PM

Subject: To All Artists

To All Artists,
University of Arizona Professor and Artist, Alfred Quiroz, was kind enough
to paint the center picture of Gene Autry and Jorge Negrete on our CONJUNTO
promotional card. If you think the image is great, than I can assure you the
scenic painting he did for CONJUNTO is many times better. In addition to
the beautiful set, CONJUNTO has an amazing crew of talented actors,
designers and Director. This production is not one that should be missed.
In fact, we feel so strongly about the quality of this play, as well as the
message, that we have decided to offer buy one get one free tickets to all
artists.

Please do not pass up this opportunity to see this amazing "conjunto."
Conjunto will continue this week, April 27-29 at 7:30 and April 30 at 2:00.
Give us a call at the box office, 520-882-7406, for any information, tickets
or details.

Conjunto tells the story of Shoko, a Japanese bride, and Genovevo, a
Mexican-American foreman, who labor together on a farm belonging to her
Japanese American husband, Min. Against the backdrop of WWII, the threat of
internment for Japanese-Americans and the music of Jorge Negrete and Gene
Autry, a growing attraction between Shoko and Genovevo blossoms as they till
the soil and share their dreams. Playwrigth Oliver Mayer brings this story
to life with passion and humor evoking an uncanny parallel with the issues
we face today.

Playwright Oliver Mayer is the author of Blade to the Heat, which premiered
at the Public Theatre and was subsequently produced in Los Angeles, San
Francisco, Chicago, and Mexico City. Other plays include:
Joe Louis Blues, Ragged Time, Out of the Fringe, Joy of the Desolate, The
Road to Los Angeles, Young Valiant, Bold as Love, and Dias Y Flores. Mr.
Mayer received a Gerbode grant to write the libretto for America Tropical, a
new opera composed by David Conte to premiere in 2006 in San Francisco. He
is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, a
graduate of Cornell and Columbia Universities and studied at Worcester
College, Oxford. Conjunto was developed at the Sundance Lab, San Jose
Repertory Theatre and the Mark Taper Forum New Work Festival. It was
produced by Teatro Vision, San Jose, CA in 2003.

Tucson: Diction Course at The Studio for Actors

From: The Studio for Actors [mailto:acting-courses@the-studio-for-actors.com]
Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 6:53 AM
Subject: Announcement - Diction Course

Diction

at The Studio for Actors

Having good diction is essential to making a great first impression.  Many people get caught up in their physical appearance, and forget about the quality of their voice and their diction.  Clear and correct pronunciation of words can serve you well, whether you’re an actor or not.  Together we’ll build a list of words specific to your diction problems, and I’ll show you how to undo years of not-so-great diction habits.  Learn a whole lot about communication, and have a really good time doing it.  One thing I think actors don't realize is that if they'd had really good diction, they could have had many more callbacks - or been cast much more often.  When an actor is auditioning and is hard to understand, the party's over.  Diction is the very clean pronunciation of words (e.g., saying "for" instead of "fer").

The course is taught by Anna Risley, who has had many speaking roles in SAG Feature Films along with Movies made for Network Television and Miniseries.  (Most of her films were cast and shot in NYC, some in LA, and a few in Phoenix and Tucson.)  Because of her acting experience, she knows exactly what casting directors want at an audition, and what directors hope for from a performance.

5 consecutive weeks
Friday nights, April 28th - May 26th

Sports cars, expensive homes, diamond rings, Prada shoes, Armani suits... but now the only thing NOT in the closet IS HIM! As the world reacts to his "matter of fact" announcement, the turmoil, confusion, support, betrayal, acceptance, hatred and joy are mirrored in miniature by eight athletes in a sacred locker room, that find their Eden corrupted now that they have eaten The Apple. Engagingly powerful and hysterically funny, Take Me Out is a rhapsody that no lover of the sport - or of theater - should miss!

The Boys Next Door

where ‘little things’ sometimes become momentous

 By Tom Griffin

Lucien P. Smith has the mind of a five-year old, but imagines that he is able to read and comprehend the weighty books that he lugs about, Arnold, the ringleader of the group, is a hyperactive, compulsive chatterer, who suffers from deep-seated insecurities and a persecution complex; while Barry, a bright schizophrenic who is devastated by the unfeeling rejection of his brutal father, fantasizes that he is a golf pro.  Mingled with scenes from the daily lives of these ‘Boys’, where ‘little things’ sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy where we’re reminded that the handicapped, like the rest of us, want only to love, laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time which they, like their more fortunate brothers, are allotted on this earth.
