Tucsonan Iris J. Arnesen is pleased to announce the publication, by the firm of McFarland & Company, of her second book on opera. The official release date is October 2010.

Nine Famous Operas: What's Really Going On! contains analyses of the stories and music of nine operas, presented in chronological order from 1791 to 1928. As with her first book, The Romantic World of Puccini: A New Critical Appraisal of the Operas (also published by McFarland & Company), Nine Famous Operas explores the literary genres, themes, and allegories, as well as the music, of nine of the world's most popular operas, revealing new and exciting depths in them.

Ms. Arnesen's next published work is expected to be her recently completed Western novel, Jack of Hearts, which is set in the Arizona Territory of the 1880's.

By day, Ms. Arnesen works as an accountant, but since 1999 she has also been the editor and publisher of The Opera Glass, a periodical that covers opera, theatre, dance, and concert music, and which has just reached its 50th issue. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona, a popular lecturer on opera, and a well-known figure in the Tucson arts community.

The book is available online from Barnes & Noble for $35.

TTA List Members can buy it from Ms. Arnesen for $30.

To order from the author, checks must be made out: Iris Arnesen and mailed to 219 N. Euclid, Tucson AZ 85719.
