Leslie Jordan: Exposed!
This year for their annual "Rev-It-Up" fundraiser, Reveille Men's Chorus is pleased to announce they are bringing Leslie Jordan to the FOX Tucson Theater for a night of laughs and perhaps even a few tears.
Television audiences will immediately recognize the comedic actor from his Emmy Award-Winning role as Beverley Leslie on Will and Grace. He has also appeared in Boston Legal, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, to name a few. Now Tucsonans can look forward to seeing Leslie Jordan in person, for one night only, when he performs his one-man show, Exposed, at the FOX Tucson Theater on March 10.
Please join us for an evening of hilarity, and support Reveille Men's Chorus!
Community Awards
In addition to the featured presentation, each year Reveille recognizes community contributions at the Rev-It-Up event.
Three awards will be given again this year; the Joel Meister Community Impact Award, the Reveille Leadership Award, and the Reveille Volunteer Award.
We thank the following community members for their impact!
Jonathan Rothschild –
Joel Meister Community Impact Award
Awards being presented this year include the Joel Meister Community Impact Award recognizing individual efforts to support and engage the LGBTQ community. The award this year will be presented to Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.
Mayor Rothschild is a long-time supporter of the LGBTQ community. The mayor was an early advocate for legislation to make same sex marriage legal in Arizona. He is a regular guest at Tucson GLBT Chamber of Commerce events and has been an avid participant at yearly Gay Pride parades. Mayor Rothschild has issued proclamations to support the LGBTQ community each year, proclaiming LGBT Pride Month and Transgender Awareness Week. The mayor formed a Hate Crimes Task Force within the first 360 days in office and has appointed community members to the Tucson Commission on GLBT Issues. Last year, Mayor Rothschild launched a "Don't Wait to Fight Hate" web page, with links to resources to fight bullying and hate. Most recently, the mayor has been a supporter and donor for the Thornhill Lopez Center on 4th, which will house LGBTQ youth-centered programs. Along with the entire City Council, Mayor Rothschild approved an ordinance allowing civil unions between same-sex couples in 2013, two years before the national legalization of same-sex marriage.
Mayor Rothschild is a native Tucsonan. Prior to becoming mayor, he had a 30-year career practicing law with the firm of Mesch, Clark & Rothschild.
Shawn Cullen -
Reveille Leadership Award
A rare treat offered this year is the Reveille Leadership Award going to an individual who is visionary in creating energy and purpose for Reveille Men's Chorus. This year, Reveille will be presenting this award to former Artistic Director, Shawn Cullen.
During his 8-year tenure as Artistic Director/Conductor with Reveille Men's Chorus, Mr. Cullen worked to inspire growth in membership and audiences alike while striving to produce musically excellent, mission based programming with humor and heart. Mr. Cullen conducted Reveille in 16 local productions, numerous community OUTreach performances, two quadrennial GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association) Chorus festivals and travelled internationally to perform with the Puerto Vallarta Gay Men's Chorus. Mr. Cullen also led Reveille to make their debut performance with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra in 2013 for "Broadway Rocks!" as the first LGBTQ chorus to perform with a professional symphony orchestra in the state of Arizona. One of Mr. Cullen's brightest achievements with Reveille was the formation of Reverb, Reveille's outreach and engagement small group ensemble, to continue to grow the impact of Reveille's mission.
He joined Desert Voices Chorus as Artistic Director/Conductor in 2013 helping to develop it's new mission of "Fostering Community through Song", making him one of the few conductors nationally to serve in artistic leadership for two GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association) Choruses simultaneously. In January 2017 Mr. Cullen accepted a three-year term as a national Board of Director for GALA Choruses helping to lead the North American LGBTQ and LGBTQ-allied choral movement. Most recently, Mr. Cullen has joined the artistic team of Heartland Men's Chorus in Kansas City serving as director to their community engagement ensemble, Burnt Ends, with goals to change lives through music throughout the Midwest.
Michael Rogers –
Reveille Volunteer Award
Reveille also recognizes a volunteer member of the community that provides unwavering and unsolicited support for the mission of the chorus. This year Reveille will be recognizing Michael Rogers of Hughes Federal Credit Union with the Reveille Volunteer Award.
Michael was born in Oregon, but at the age of 18, he moved to the warmer climate of Tucson, Arizona with his family after high school graduation. After bouncing from job to job he found employment with Hughes Federal Credit Union at age 35 and has been with the CU for 21 years. During his employment with the CU he earned his Bachelor Science in Business Administration and Masters in Business Administration with a major in eBusiness, and a specialty in business intelligence.
In 2006, Michael joined Reveille Men's Chorus after having come out a few months prior. He also met Nathaniel Grady during this time, and has been with him for 12 years. In 2007, he joined the board of directors of RMC where he served as secretary for 2 years and treasurer for 6 years. In 2015, he stepped down as a singing member due to hospital stays and Parkinson's Disease that was diagnosed in 2012. Although retired from singing, he enjoys continuing to volunteer for the chorus to further its mission of "Changing lives through music," which he says is more important than ever in the current political environment.
