Conceived and Directed by Marc David Pinate
Collaborating Artists: Adam Cooper Teran, Heather Gray, Sarah Gonzales, Wesley Creigh
After a year of research and community collaboration, artists present an extravaganza for the senses for two nights in Barrio Anita! Staged outdoors in historic Barrio Anita, this community based, immersive experience tells the story of Barrio Anita through large scale video projections, live music, shadow theatre, performed poetry, historical reenactment, heritage foods, and audio tours.
April 20 & 21 @6:45pm

Highlights from the Barrio Stories Main attractions!
Mariachi Stage:
An homage to the awe inspiring after-school Mariachi programs throughout Tucson that began at Davis Bilingual Elementary in 1983 with Dr. Alfredo Valenzuela. The featured Mariachi groups are current Davis students or alumni of Davis' after school Mariachi program.

- Mariachi Milagro
Spoken Futures Youth Poets:
Tucson youth poets will roam throughout the event performing original poems inspired by Barrio Anita's history and heritage.
Featuring: Gregorio Contreras, Leo Herrera, Enrique Garcia, Zoe Keeter, Ara Montano, Virginia Sabimana.
Davis Bilingual student Ballet Florklorico and Poetry Performances!
Family Interactive Activities:
- Audio recording stations to share audience member's own stories and reflections.
- Barrio Haiku writing station.
- Giant map for families to mark where they lived

Architectual Tour
Saturday, April 21 @ 5:30pm
Tour starts at Oury Center

Take a walking tour of Barrio Anita led by Tucson architect, Sharaya Jimenez. Jimenez will point out and discuss examples of various building styles from different eras that exist in Barrio Anita. In 2011 Barrio Anita was listed in the National Register of Historic Districts. Tour ends at 6:30pm, just in time for the start of Barrio Stories in Barrio Anita.
Self-Guided Historical Audio Tour
Friday & Saturday April 20 - 21, Available from 5pm to Sunset
Tour starts at Oury Center
Requires smart phone

Learn about Barrio Anita's history though some of its most notable residents. Just download the Tour Buddy app onto your phone. At the sign in type in your email address and enter the password "anita04" to access the Barrio Stories tour. The tour is GPS triggered and will automatically begin playing the narration as you approach the historical mural panels spread throughout the neighborhood.
