LISTENING AS AN ACT OF SOCIAL JUSTICE

The YWCA of Southern Arizona, in collaboration with Taproot Productions, presents HARK! -a community-devised performance project aimed at reducing political and social polarization and isolation and building dialogue on issues of common concern.

Last year the HARK! artistic team staged several public and private listening events at which mindful listening techniques were applied to invite participants to speak out across social, political, racial, and gender-based divides and share their views in a collective conversation on identity, participation and civic resonance in the context of our fractured culture.

The HARK! artistic team, led by Playwright/Director Eugenia Woods and Choreographers Kimi Eisele and Natalie Brewster Nguyen, arranged responses from public listening activities into a multidisciplinary performance of theatre, movement, sound sculpture and video.

"To fight for yourself is just an egocentric behavior. To fight for something beyond you- the greater good- that's always worth fighting for."

"I think at heart people actually want similar things, they just don't realize it."
