Physical Comedy on Film
Presenter: Rick Wamer
 

Everything is Physical: A look at physical comedy through the lens of the Physical Imagination. Rick will explore the foundations of physical comedy and the physical acting of significant contributors from the silent film greats to masters of the theatre.  Elements that will be touched upon will include the mime of the stage and the natural mime of Chaplin and other silent film actors, as well as slapstick and its roots from Italian commedia dell'arte.  Some of the presentation will involve experiential engagement on the part of willing participants.



Rick Wamer Bio:

Actor and director, Rick Wamer, spent eighteen years mentoring with the renowned mime artist Marcel Marceau. His physical theatre and mime career has spanned close to four decades, with performances, commissioned choreography and directing opportunities that have entertained audiences in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and throughout Central and North America and the Caribbean. With Lorie Heald, Rick founded the Tucson based Theatrical Mime Theatre in 2004, which enjoyed six successful seasons.  He is the recipient of multiple honors, including artist fellowships, three Lumies nominations and the Buffalo Exchange 2015 Contributor to the Arts award.  He lives in Tucson, and is presently writing a book entitled The Physical Imagination: Everything is Physical, documenting his approach to acting, with projected publication, January, 2019.
