Three outstanding plays have won again this year. Join us for the New One Act Play Festival to enjoy what our local playwrights have to offer.
"Kitty", by Michael Singervalt is fiction based on fact. The story revolves around the 1964 murder of Kitty Genovese, in New York as she walked home from work one night. Allegedly 38 people either heard or saw something but did nothing to help. The play follows how one elderly woman deals with what she witnessed and what it does to everyone around her.
"Every Concentrated Fragment" by Susan Hansell recounts what 4 French women had to endure after the Nazi occupation of Paris. First imprisoned in Paris for being Partisans, then transferred to Auschwitz, the play is based on accounts of one survivor named Charlotte Delbo, who finally, after many years, found the courage to write about what she and the others had to endure.
"Misogynistic Shoes" by Gavin Kayner is the second of his plays to be chosen to be produced in one of our festivals. His "Interior Dialogues" was chosen in our first New One Act Play Festival. "Misogynistic Shoes" shows us two strangers - one seeking solace, the other money to care for her daughter - as they engage one another in a bizarre interlude that challenges propriety.
The New One Act Play Festival is the only event of its kind in Tucson. The contest is open to playwrights from around Arizona with the prize being the chance to have their play produced and staged by The Community Players. It is a great way for the 3 winners to show off their talent and a great way for us to showcase these fine writers.
