Carol is a politically correct student. She believes that the ‘system’ is at fault if the grades she receives reflect failure.
John is her professor. He discredits the value of his peers and his institution which is immersed in materialism.
Carol sees John as a weak link and sets out to destroy him and make an example of him to society, other professors and the college authorities.
The very nature of power itself is displayed as it shifts between them. Their relationship is undermined since they both fail to define its boundaries and fail to understand the words they speak to one another.

“Drama is about two people who want something different...power, that’s another way of putting it” - David Mamet.
