Acting & Audition Technique I

at The Studio for Actors

This is the foundation for learning the important building blocks to great performances.
You’ll learn:

-       how to break down the script

-       how to analyze the character

-       how to play him/her

-       how to mark the script to give a really great audition

Throughout the course, you’ll have two or three auditions, and you’ll be given lots of information and insightful advice about how to handle the important few minutes before each audition.  This course is not just about auditioning - it’s also a great acting class.

This is a six-week course (six consecutive Monday evenings) at $45/week.  However, if your schedule prevents you from attending all of the sessions, you may make up an absence by booking a private session outside of class for $65 for an hour-and-a-half session.

The course is taught by Anna Risley, who has had many speaking roles in SAG Feature Films along with Movies made for Network Television and Miniseries.  (Most of her films were cast and shot in NYC, some in LA, and a few in Phoenix and Tucson.)  Because of her acting experience, she knows exactly what casting directors want at an audition, and what directors hope for from a performance.

6 consecutive Monday nights, from 6.30 to 8.30pm at The Studio for Actors.

The cost for Audition Technique I is $45/week.
Call Anna at 881-2363 for details or to sign up.

Diction/Speaking

at The Studio for Actors

So many people have poor diction, and one problem is: others can’t quite understand what they’re saying.

Mumbling, slurring words or “mushing” everything together, with no final t’s or d’s, makes it hard for your audience to clearly understand what you’re saying. Diction is the art of speaking with clarity, or in such a way that each word is clearly heard.

Clean, clear speech

This 6-week course is designed for actors, people who give speeches, and anyone who talks during the course of their day!

In this class, we build a customized list of your words – the words you can work on and you’ll learn exactly how to work on them.
The end product is: you’re easily understood and heard by your audience.

This class is fun, easy, and very beneficial.

Friday evenings (6.30-8.30pm) March 23-May 4 (no class on April 20).

$45 per week – call 881-2363 to sign up!

The class listed above is a multi-week course.  However, if your schedule prevents you from attending all of the consecutive sessions, in most cases you may make up an absence by booking a private session outside of class for $65 for an hour-and-a-half session.

All courses at The Studio are taught by Anna Risley, who has had many speaking roles in SAG Feature Films along with Movies made for Network Television and Miniseries.  (Most of her films were cast and shot in NYC, some in LA, and a few in Phoenix and Tucson.)  Because of her acting experience, she knows exactly what casting directors want at an audition, and what directors hope for from a performance.  Ms. Risley has owned and run The Studio for Actors since 1986.

Comedy Improv

at The Studio for Actors

Comedy improv isn't half as hard as it looks when you learn it from a former Saturday Night Live cast member.  Anna Risley gives you the keys: formats, dialects, and structure.
Come play, have a ball, and enjoy discovering how funny you are.
Also: for acting students, comedy improv helps you think fast on your feet (ever have a scene partner forget a line, and you have to save the day?).

This is a four-week course (four consecutive Wednesday evenings) from 6:30-8:30pm at The Studio for Actors.

The cost for Comedy Improv is $35/week.
Call Anna at 881-2363 for details or to sign up.
