Subject: THE ROGUE THEATRE presents THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN

Dear Friends of The Rogue Theatre,

In one short week we open our sixth production, Bertolt Brecht's The Good Woman of Setzuan, based on a Chinese fable in which the gods come to earth in search of a thoroughly good person.

Highlighted with a score by Brecht's friend Stefan Wolpe and beautifully crafted Big Head puppets by Tucson Puppet Works, the play follows the struggles of Shen Te, the gods' chosen "good person," as she attempts to retain what the gods have given her while remaining true to herself.

Guest artist, Patty Gallagher, visiting from UC-Santa Cruz, to perform the role of Shen Te, brings her extensive background in physical theatre, mask performance, Balinese dance and clown traditions to the project. Patty is surrounded by a 16-person ensemble of the lovely Rogue regular players and exciting new performers.

Our production begins with a discounted preview performance on Thursday, March 29, and continues Thursdays to Sundays through April 15. Thursdays to Saturdays, the play begins at 7:30 P.M., and Sundays it begins at 2:00 P.M.

To prepare the way for our journey to Setzuan, the Summer Thunder Chinese Music Ensemble, directed by Paul Amiel, will perform a Musical Preshow of traditional Chinese music, beginning fifteen minutes before curtain.

Performances take place at the Zuzi Theatre, 738 N. Fifth Avenue, at the southeast corner or Fifth Avenue and University Boulevard, in the Historic YWCA.

Regular ticket prices are $17. Our experiment with "Pay-What-You-Will Night" in our last production was such a success that we're offering it again: On Thursdays April 5 and April 12, our Pay-What-You-Will Nights will provide you the option of either a reduced price or an extra donation.

The Good Woman of Setzuan features Jill Baker, Nick Bravin, Leanné Whitewolf Charlton, Jeremy Ellwood, Patty Gallagher, Roxanne Harley, Carolyn Hokin, Art Jacobson, Avis Judd, Joseph McGrath, James Mousigian, Arlene Naughton, James Naughton, Roger Owen, Roberta Streicher and Martie van der Voort. The ensemble is directed by Cynthia Meier, with musical direction by Harlan Hokin.
