Winding Road Announces World Premier of Armor

A New Play by Toni Press-Coffman

(Tucson, Arizona) — Winding Road Theater Ensemble will launch its second season with the premiere of Ensemble member Toni Press-Coffman’s new play, Armor.

Eva Tessler is slated to direct this family drama with a social conscience. Set in Washington, D.C., Armor is about a brilliant budding cellist trying to make sense of her father’s involvement in a political battle over body armor for our troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The play is interspersed with cello and piano music that punctuate its emotional ebb and flow. Developed with a grant from the Sloan Foundation, Armor is the winner of the 2010 Arizona Theatre Company Playwriting Contest.

Armor will be presented at Zuzi’s Theater, 738 North Fifth Ave., Tucson. With a preview on Sept. 2, the show opens on Sept. 3, and runs Sept. 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19, 2010.

Winding Road Theater Ensemble was founded in 2008 by a group of Tucson playwrights, directors and actors, including: Lesley Abrams, Glen Coffman, Toni Press-Coffman, Amy Erbe and Terry Erbe. First-season productions featured Dorothy Parker’s Last Call and Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune. Winding Road Theater is an ensemble of theater artists whose mission is to tell dynamic, theatrical stories that illuminate the human condition and celebrate the theater’s power to entertain us, move us and bring us joy. Guided by the principle that proscription is the enemy of imagination, Winding Road produces plays classic and new, traditional and unconventional, comic and tragic, and tells stories from as many perspectives as we are fortunate to discover.
