Something Something Theatre's 2019-20 season

(most dates approximate)

All 4 plays are written by women.

All 4 have been critically-acclaimed.

3 of the 4 are brand new to Tucson.

'THE REVOLUTIONISTS' by Lauren Gunderson

September or Sep/Oct, 2019

Set during the height of the French Revolution, four women – a playwright, an assassin, a spy and an empress – bond to tell the story of their turbulent times for future generations.  It's a comedy.  Guillotines may be involved.

Gunderson was the second most-produced playwright in 2018, except for Shakespeare:

per American Theatre and the 'New Yorker.'

'TRANSFORMATIONS' by Martie van der Voort

October 31 – November 17, 2019

In her play, local actor and playwright Martie performs all twelve transgender characters, their close relatives and significant others at a group therapy session.  'TransFormations' has been performed to acclaim in Tucson and in cities around the nation, but this will be its first full run!

'CRY IT OUT' by Molly Smith Metzler

January or Jan/Feb, 2020

Metzler's sympathetic yet brutally honest play brings characters to the stage not normally seen.  Three women, diverse in all ways…except that they have all recently given birth and are coping with everything that comes with being the main caretaker. Funny and uniquely insightful, written by a young mother.

'WHEN WE WERE YOUNG AND UNAFRAID' by Sarah Treem

March or Mar/Apr, 2020

A woman runs a B&B on an island off the coast of Washington state in the 1970s, a time of great change in America, even before Roe vs. Wade or the Violence Against Women Act.  At times the proprietress secretly shelters battered women, as well.

We produced Treem's 'The How and the Why' last season. It received MAC nominations for best play and best director: Jasmine Roth. Treem was a writer for the TV series 'The Affair,' 'House of Cards'  and  'In Treatment.'

Look for audition announcements in the following weeks, and perhaps information about a possible fifth play.
