WINDING ROAD THEATER ENSEMBLE ANNOUNCES SELECTIONS FOR THE "EIGHT los IN TUCSON" 10-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL
Festival celebrates its second year of production
Tucson, AZ, January 13, 2020 - Winding Road Theater Ensemble today announced the eight 10-minute plays selected for its second annual production of "Eight los in Tucson", a 10-minute play festival. The Show opens April 16, 2020, for a two-week run at the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre at the Historic Y, 738 N 5th Avenue, Tucson.
In a blind selection from more than 30o submissions nationwide, the Chosen plays include:
- Theater More Like Baseball by Mark Cornell (Chapel Hill, NC)
Friends at a play. One of them would rather be at a baseball game. - Wolves by John Cafiero (Tucson, AZ)
A hitchhiker's ride to the next toton quickly becomes more complex, and dangerous, than they could
have euer imagined.
- Foster Poet by Clinton Festa (Greensboro, NC)
After a poet grades out of the local coffee house scene, a Tucson family decides if they rill make their
house his forever home.'
- Choices by Jim McLindon (Northampton, MA)
A debtor burdened by crushing student loans is offered a way out ... but is the deal too good to be true?
- Only Essentials by Michael Adams (Camarillo, CA)
While facing evacuation from their home due to an approaching toildfire, a couple find a box tucked into a doset corner, their son's ashes inside. Reminiscing about &hat they've lost, they question whether to take the box with them or leave it behind.
- Everything Happens for a Reason... Right? by William Royce (Valley Glen, CA) Sometimes it takes a body an the kitchen floor to bring ttoo people together.
- Visions of an Eagle atop a Cactus eating a Snake by Andrew Sianez-De La 0 (Jamaica Plain, MA) A Tather, raising a child in increasingly terrifting times, takes his daughter to the desert to shoto her a piece of her Aast. A family history of visions and homes left behind; of eagles and the sacrifices toe make for the ones toe love.
· "Scripted" by Mark Harvey Levine (Indianapolis, IN)
A couple toake up and accidentally find a copy of the play they're in.
All plays were evaluated through a "blind" process; all of the playwrights' identifiable information was redacted from every script prior to being distributed to our Reading Committee, consisting of more than twenty members of the performing arts community. From eighteen semifinalists, Winding Road's Artistic Director and Festival Producer selected the final line-up, with an eye to assembling an eclectic evening of entertainment. Arizona playwrights were evaluated separately, using the same blind process as all other submissions.
"Eight los in Tucson" will feature more than a dozen local-area actors, including many perennial favorites, supported by a core team of experienced designers and technical staff.
There will be seven performances over the production's two week run, opening April 17, 2020, with 7:3o p.m. evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:00 p.m. matinee shows on Sundays. A special preview performance will run Thursday, April 16, at 7:3o p.m.
