"Made in America" – a celebration of American song and dance!
 
Recollections (premiere)
Choreographer Mark Schneider creates a stunning and evocative new ballet with popular, cherished American songs such as By the Light of the Silvery Moon, Bicycle Built for Two, The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze, Let Me Call You Sweetheart and more. Live musical accompaniment by featured guest artists Katherine Byrnes and Rob Wright add to the energy and nostalgia of this new rousing full-company work.
 
Unsquare (premiere)
Associate Artistic Director Chieko Imada continues her creative sojourn with this American jazz - inspired work. Classical ballet and jazz dance movement merge to create a unique stylistic fusion that captures the spirit of American musical innovation. Company Prima Ballerina Jenna Johnson stars in this premiere complete with original scenic effects by Ballet Tucson collaborator and renowned artist Lawrence W. Lee.
 
Serenade
Created in 1934, Serenade is the first ballet created by George Balanchine after he immigrated to the United States and is considered a milestone in the history of dance.
 
About the Guest Artists:
Katherine Byrnes is an award-winning vocalist based in Tucson, AZ. Dubbed the "Golden voice of Tucson," Katherine has toured the world singing jazz, broadway, rock, and classical genres. Her projects have taken her as far as China with Art.if.Act Dance Project, across Europe with Blue Note recording artist Amos Lee, and throughout the United States with her original band Sweet Ghosts. Raised in the Sonoran Desert, Katherine is a proud contributor to the eclectic Tucson Arts scene. In 2020, she will be performing her Carole King tribute show Tapestry, the Album all over the state, as well as soloing with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

Rob Wright has been performing professionally for 40 years. He began playing the banjo at 10 years old and later moved on to ukulele and guitar. Rob was a member of The New Christy Minstrels from 1979 - 1981 and has performed in all 50 states of the nation, as well as Canada and Mexico. In addition to performing with the Wildcat Jazz Band, Rob has been a frequent headliner at banjo festivals across America as well as making several guest artist appearances with symphony orchestras. Rob is a founding member of The Great Banjo Summit and Other Things with Strings with Howard Alden and Tyler Jackson.
