Tucson: The Loft Cinema - A COAT OF SNOW with filmmaker Gordy Hoffman in person ! - Wednesday, January 17th at 7:30 p.m.

Subject: [IFASA] The Loft Cinema - A COAT OF SNOW with filmmaker Gordy
Hoffman in person ! - Wednesday, January 17th at 7:30 p.m.

FILMMAKER GORDY HOFFMAN BLANKETS
THE LOFT CINEMA WITH "A COAT OF SNOW"
What really goes on behind the closed doors of a wild
bachelorette party? Find out on Wednesday, January 17th at 7:30 p.m., when
acclaimed screenwriter and filmmaker GORDY HOFFMAN presents his directorial
debut, A COAT OF SNOW (Gordy Hoffman, 2006, USA, 73 min., rated NR),
detailing the misadventures of young woman attempting to videotape her
cousins bachelorette party. Hoffman, whose previous credits include the
award-winning screenplay for 2002s Love Liza, starring his brother,
Oscar-winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman, will introduce and discuss his
innovative new film (for which he also supplied the screenplay) at this
special one-time only screening. Tickets are $8.25 general admission; $5.25
for students, seniors and military; and $4.50 for Tucson Film Society
members.
When a girl takes her video camera to her cousins
bachelorette party, the night begins simply enough - as a gathering of
friends and family looking to celebrate the bride-to-bes impending
marriage. Clothes are noted. Gifts are presented. Champagne is consumed.
Yet quietly, before the party even begins, small accidents lead to serious
injury. As the video camera wends its way through several hands and eyes,
missed connections tailspin into abandonment and actual chaos, leading to
the brides eventual disappearance.
Shot on digital video, COAT OF SNOW tells its story from the
unorthodox point of view of the camera itself, making the recording device
an actual character, and allowing the audience to see only what it sees.
Having characters in the story literally holding the camera creates a
cinematic vocabulary for the film that is highly unconventional, but also
unusually effective in placing viewers right in the middle of the action.
By forgoing the services of a professional camera operator, using non-name
actors, and embracing the oft-maligned digital video format, Hoffman creates
a world that is both hyper-realistic and emotionally intimate. I love the
nakedness of video, Hoffman notes. The look, the texture of video, is
familiar, intimate, honest and even appealing it is videos vulnerability
which makes the impact of what happens in this movie more powerful.
Gordy Hoffman is a renowned playwright and screenwriter
whose plays have been produced throughout the world. His second screenplay,
Love Liza (2002), won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2002
Sundance Film Festival. A COAT OF SNOW is his feature directorial debut.

Tucson: Beowulf Alley Theatre presents The Woman in Black

December 29, 2006                                                               Contacts:       Beth Dell

                                                                                                                        badell@beowulfalley.org

                                                                                                                        (520) 622-4460

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Tucson, AZ)— Beowulf Alley Theatre Company, at 11 South 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701, is pleased present The Woman in Black, a ghost story, derived from a book by Susan Hill and adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt, from January 11-February 4, 2007. Tickets may be purchased online at www.beowulfalley.org or call 520-882-0555.

Appearing in The Woman in Black are Roberto Guajardo and David Alexander Johnston. The director is Terry Erbe. When asked why this play was selected for the 2006-2007 season, Stephen Elton, Beowulf Alley Theatre Company’s Artistic Director said,

“Everybody loves a good ghost story. However, in my ten years of doing theatre in Tucson I haven’t seen too many produced for the stage. I’ve seen shows that have used the device of a ghost to tell a story, but most were comedies and that is what I love the most about The Woman in Black…it is simply meant to scare you.  This show has been playing in London for 17 years and with one part of our mission being dedicated to producing daring material that otherwise might not be done in Tucson, this choice was an easy one for me to make.  Interestingly enough, after I first heard about this show from Terry Erbe, I did some research both over the internet and with local theatregoers who had seen the show in London.  What I found consistently was those who had seen the show had jumped out of their pants at some point in the play.  So this season we have made patrons think, laugh and cry…now we want to scare you.”

When Director Terry Erbe learned that Elton added The Woman in Black to this season’s selections and that he had been selected to direct the play he said,

“I wanted to do this show because, when I saw it, it was one of the most thrilling experiences I've had in the theatre. I'm amazed that so few people know about it. Additionally, I look forward to having the opportunity to direct a production at Beowulf Alley Theatre Company.”

Preview Performances are $10 per ticket on January 11 and 12 at 7:30p. The production will run from January 13-February 4, 2007 with ticket prices ranging from $14-$18. Purchase tickets online at www.beowulfalley.org or call our reservations line at 520-882-0555.

Tucson: Access Tucson needs your support

License Renewal - The City of Tucson Needs Your Support

Posted December 22nd, 2006 by vicki in News, Front Page, About Us

Your voice is vital for the retention of your community television services–the PEG channels and facilities. Access Tucson is the only public access television station left standing in Arizona. In recent years public access television facilities, across the state, have closed their doors due to a lack of citizen support.

License renewal negotiations between the City of Tucson and Cox Communications have thus far failed to produce a proposal that meets community needs. Now the City is required to collect input from citizens to review the findings of city audits, surveys, focus groups and town halls.

This document is unofficially known as the Cable Needs Assessment Report. Comments must be received no later than December 29th, 2006. It concludes the City needs 7 channels to meet community needs.

Cox said in a press release, “It is regrettable that the City has gone down this road……They are sacrificing our customer’s desire for more high-definition channels and on-demand programming, in an attempt to keep imposing higher taxes and to protect local access channels that have little or no viewership.”

Do you really need to make a choice between your community PEG channels and high definition channels and video on demand? The Report shows that you can have both.
According to results from the city survey, more that half of those polled supported the PEG channels. And an independent engineering firm, hired by the city concluded “…that in the Tucson market, as a matter of corporate policy, Cox has chosen not to provide video-on-demand (VOD) at this time.”

The report goes on to say that if the necessary VOD server and signaling equipment were installed, it would “free-up” capacity on the Cox system in order to provide more cable channels and high-definition channels. A VOD upgrade should have no impact on the PEG channels.” The upgrade could be ready in six months time, the engineering firm concludes.

The Cable Needs Assessment Report asks the question “Can Cox afford to satisfy local needs and interests?”
The Report: “Cox is the 4th largest cable provider in the nation. It has had the most success in gaining new telephone customers and dominates the broadband market in Arizona. The company has also raised rates twice in the past two years.” The report goes on to say Cox has seen an increase in the number of cable subscribers, including those it has taken back from satellite competition.

The head of the Arizona Consumer’s Council likens Cox’s dominance in Arizona to a monopoly, resulting in higher prices.

We urge you to take a look at the Cable Needs Assessment Report and support the City’s position. The report is massive, but there are useful summaries at the beginning of most sections.

If you didn’t speak up during the recent City-held Town Halls or fill out a survey; it’s not too late. Let the City and Cox know how you feel. Visit these websites:

Are you interested in fashion and shopping? I am a producer looking to create a new show in the Tucson area. I produced The Fasionista Life with Yvonne Auld for the past year, but she has decided not to continue with her show, however I feel that she filled a niche in the market. So I am looking for talent to create a new show along the same lines.

If you have interest in being on TV and are into fashion and have the drive to do a weekly show please send your resume and head shots to...
