Performance Details:
Long time O-T-O Dance friend and “local boy” Thom Lewis will present his duet EVERLAST, performing with O-T-O Dance Artistic Director and company founder, Annie Bunker. Thom and Anne have been working together for over twenty years. This long time relationship is played out to the music of Lyle Lovitt and Thom’s choreography. It is a rare treat to watch two veteran dancers performing together in this whimsical and theatrical work.
Annie Bunker and composer/videographer Chuck Koesters present their premiere of HAWAIIAN SUITE. Emotional and moving, the work is comprised of dances, “Pahoehoe Dreams”, “Orchids Embrace”, “Pele’s Breath”, and “Beneath the Tide”, that celebrate the raw natural beauty of the earth’s ongoing process of creation in the Hawaiian Islands. Accompanied by a backdrop of video images shot in close proximity to flowing lava, sensual orchids and underwater life, the Dancework combines the physical and imagined into a unified visual experience.
Odaiko Sonora joins O-T-O Dance in re-staging for the Fox Theatre a collaboration of contemporary movement and Taiko drumming entitled Wa-Ei Dansu. The piece, in 5 movements, has dancers both dancing and drumming with the Odaiko ensemble of Rome Hamner, Karen Falkenstrom, Zibi Turtle and Rebecca Bushner. Past longtime favorite O-T-O Dancer, Charles Thompson return to
O-T-O Dancer Nicole Stansbury contributes her premiere of WIDE EYES a dance for five performed to an original score by local musician Chris Levesque. Quirky and funny, this Dancework adds a humorous balance to the program.
Guest Film Maker:
Jodi Kaplan is an internationally renowned filmmaker whose work features the movement of the human body. Her award-winning shorts have screened at over one hundred festivals, museums and venues worldwide including Dance on Camera at
O-T-O Dance combines modern dance, aerial dance gymnastics and theatre in totally new ways. The company has skillfully avoided the “ta da!” style of circus performance prevalent in popular culture entertainment today. Instead, O-T-O Dance relies on the art of “transition”, moving from one sculpted choreographic moment to the next. The performance literally turns into an aural movement visual meditation
