Announcing Live Theatre Workshops 2007 Summer Season and their 2007-2008 Season!

Live Theatre Workshop presents
Its 2007 Summer Season

CHAPTER TWO, Neil Simon Directed by Doug Mitchell
06/14/07-07/22/07
"Lovely whimsical and touching and . . . always funny. . . . Most of the time downright hilarious." N.Y. Post .
Based on part of Neil Simon's life, Chapter Two mixes laughter with heartache. George Schneider, a writer whose wife has recently died, returns to a lonely apartment. His younger brother Leo, a theatrical press agent and born matchmaker, tries to snap George out of his emotional tailspin by supplying him with unwanted and unsuccessful dates. Then Leo comes up with Jennie Malone ...and she's a winner. Still, it's a rocky road ahead for the not so young lovers. George struggles with contradictory impulses to embrace a new life but remain faithful to the old. George and Jennie stumble on, tripping over George's pent up emotions and Jennie's wariness born of her recent marital fiasco. In a hilarious, farcical subplot, Leo has a fling with Faye, Jennie's dizzy and neurotic married friend.

THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, George Axelrod, Directed by Sabian Trout
07/26/07-09/02/07
"One of the theater's biggest comedy hits -- original and funny…"
—NY Times."
Richard Sherman roams restlessly around his empty apartment, bemoaning the fact that his wife of seven years, and their son, have just walked out on him. Then, without warning, a gigantic flower pot tumbles down from an overhead balcony, nearly putting him permanently out of his misery. The jarring event has a strange effect on Richard. He now sees his marriage as wasted time and feels it necessary to exercise his libido as quickly as possible. Suddenly reborn, he invites the delectable doll who lives on the floor above down for an evening of temptation. The night doesn't quite go the way he thought it would, as morality and guilt sneak into his head. In his conscience—literally following him about the apartment—a soul-struggle of heroic and hilarious proportions ensues.

THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES, Frank D. Gilroy, Directed by Chuck Rankin
09/06/07-10/14/07
Pulitzer Prize, 1965; Best Play of the Year, N.Y. Drama Critics.
The action in this engrossing drama is deceptively simple. A son who went away to war as a pampered boy comes back as a man of his own, and the varying effects on his mother and father are devastating. The family want to love one another, to relive the good old times and build some better ones together, but they find it impossible to communicate. They have grown irrevocably apart, and can no longer reconcile the dream and the reality. A polka throws mother and son into fits of laughter; but then, this isn't the boy she remembers at all. His father gives up a lucrative business appointment to take him to a ball game, and they have a whale of a time; but the next morning the rancor of husband and wife turns sour the love of father for son. They want to love one another, but do not know how.

Live Theatre Workshop proudly presents
its 2007-2008 Season

10/18/07-11/25/07 CACTUS FLOWER by Abe Burrows
Directed by Cliff Madison
A dentist stays single by telling his many girlfriends that he is married and has three children. His story backfires when he falls in love and asks the lady to marry him. She demands to see his wife and the children -- and he has to produce a wife to assuage the girlfriend's conscience. The laughs never stop as his trusted dental assistant pretends to be his wife -- and she blossoms like a cactus flower the moment she steps out of her starched uniform. "You will find the jokes fast and funny, the situation becoming funnier as the play skips along." N.Y. Times .

11/29/07-01/6/08 THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO,
By Alfred Uhry, Directed by Sabian Trout
Winner of the 1997 Tony Award for Best Play. "Everything falls into place in this…winning new play…wonderfully crafted script." —Variety
THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, in December of 1939. Gone with the Wind is having its world premiere, and Hitler is invading Poland, but Atlanta's elitist German Jews are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the season. Especially concerned is the Freitag family: bachelor Adolph, his widowed sister, Beulah (Boo) Levy, and their also widowed sister-in-law, Reba. Boo is determined to have her dreamy, unpopular daughter, Lala, attend Ballyhoo, believing it will be Lala's last chance to find a socially acceptable husband. Adolph brings his new assistant, Joe Farkas, home for dinner. Lala is charmed by Joe and she hints broadly about being taken to Ballyhoo, but he turns her down. This enrages Boo, and matters get worse when Joe falls for Lala's cousin. The family gets pulled apart and then mended together with plenty of comedy, romance and revelations along the way. Events take several unexpected turns as the characters face where they come from and are forced to deal with who they really are.

01/10/08- 02/17/08 PRIVATE LIVES by Noel Coward, Directed by Roberta Streicher
Revived in 2002 by the Royal National Theatre in a production that sparkled on Broadway, Private Lives is one of the most flippant plays ever written. Elyot and Amanda, once married and now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel, meet by chance, reignite the old spark and impulsively elope. After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance alternating between passions of love and anger. Eventually there is a knock down drag out fight which opens the eyes of Elyot and Amanda, who then steal off together a second time. A unique play with four successful Broadway runs. "Gorgeous, dazzling, fantastically funny." N.Y. Times .

02/21/08-03/30/08 DANCING AT LUGHNASA by Brian Friel,
Directed by Sabian Trout
Winner of the 1992 Tony Award for Best Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Broadway Play, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. It is the time of the festival of Lughnasa, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. When the sisters finally dance to a wild, pagan Irish tune, they embody the core of the human spirit that cannot be vanquished by time or loss, or fully expressed in language. "…this play does exactly what theater was born to do, carrying both its characters and audience aloft on those waves of distant music and ecstatic release that, in defiance of all language and audience aloft on those waves of distant music and ecstatic release that, in defiance of all language and logic, let us dance and dream just before night must fall." —NY Times

04/03/08-05/04/08 PERFECT CRIME by Warren Manzi,
Directed by Chuck Rankin
This cat and mouse thriller is one of Off Broadway's longest running hits. Margaret Thorne Brent, psychiatrist and author, has returned to America with her husband, also a psychiatrist, and settled in an affluent Connecticut community where at least one bizarre murder has taken place. Inspector James Ascher, the local cop, becomes obsessed with Margaret, her patients and their sitting room, where he believes the solution to the murder lies. "Sends electric thrills up the spine!" N.Y. Times.

05/08/08-06/08/08 HOME by David Storey
Directed By Sabian Trout
On a bare terrace stroll two old gentlemen, who greet each other courteously. They discuss topics the past, school days, climate, the sea, moustaches, the war, families, etc. Are they perhaps in a small private hotel? We feel that something is not quite normal, but soon enough we realize we are actually on the grounds of a mental hospital, and these people are patients. N.Y. Critics award, Best Play of the Year."It is a remarkable play and, a notable one . . . striking and strangely moving and dramatic . . . " N.Y. Post. "

7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m.

WINNER! 2004 Tony Award, Best Play
WINNER! 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama
In I Am My Own Wife, a dazzling feat of theatrical magic that swept every
major award imaginable, one man plays 35 characters as he tells the true
story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. She endured the oppressive regimes of the
Nazis and the Communists, preserved cultural treasures, gave hope to a
generation of persecuted people and, miraculously, simply survived-as an
unapologetic transvestite. This gripping exploration of spirit, truth and
personal myth became the toast of Broadway and a smash hit. Variety calls it
"spellbinding," and the New York Post says, "See I Am My Own Wife, please."

Arizona Premiere!
Contains mature themes and language.

SHOW: BARK! THE MUSICAL

Making its Arizona Premiere and final pre-Off Broadway engagement, Arizona Onstage Productions (THE FULL MONTY, TALK OF THE TOWN, ELEGIES, RUTHLESS!, FALSETTOLAND, ASSASSINS) presents the heartwarming, funny and touching musical journey of six dogs on their way to their destiny – whether it be the pound, a shelter, rich owners, or doggie heaven. Through song and story, the audience is exposed to the tenderness, aggression, and frustration of these beings as they share personal stories of past and present, owners and friends, and their desire to be loved and part of a family. Local adoption and rescue agencies are encouraged to participate in each performance, having dogs available in the lobby in hopes of finding new and loving homes. The show is sung entirely by dogs – played by humans, of course. The loosely connected songs, by composer David Troy Francis, are performed entirely from a dog's point of view, which might sound unbearably cutesy. However it is surprisingly funny and poignant, tender and sassy, lyrical and quite upbeat. The Los Angeles production ran for over two years to sold-out audiences.

The score is a happy mélange of blues, salsa, country and straight torch songs. Oh yes, and rap, not to mention rock 'n roll, jazz and old standards. The lyrics by Gavin Geoffrey Dillard and Robert Schrock are richly varied.  A tribute to loyalty, unconditional love and all other doglike attributes, "BARK!" resonates  - whether you are a dog lover or not. Family-friendly and energetic, these dogs will add a dash of excitement to your summer entertainment options. "Two Paws Up!" said the head of the Humane Society.

Tucson: More extras needed for the film "Kids in America"

From: Faith Hibbs-Clark, C.S.A. Casting Director
[mailto:gfcsubmissions@gmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2007 3:06 PM
Subject: News from Good Faith Casting

March 25th 2007

Greetings!

The following is the last of what we need for the film "Kids in America"

DON'T SUBMIT OR AGREE TO A WARDROBE FITTING IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO WORK
ALL OF THE DAYS. IT WASTES OUR TIME AND DOESN'T IMPRESS US AT ALL!

We are now looking for extras for the film "Kids in America" which is set in
the 1980's. Please send a photo of yourself GFCsubmissions@gmail.com . Be
sure to include your name, contact information, agency info, union status,
and your sizes. Also, help us out by forwarding this email out to people you
know. Thanks.

BANKERS NEEDED: Attractive men 25-60 and attractive women 25 - 40 to play
banker types. When you submit please put the word BANKER in subject line!

MODELS NEEDED: Beautiful models needed. Male and female ages 23-30. SILVER
FOXES needed too. Older men with salt and better hair and a great look.
Please put MODEL in subject line.

ASAIN CHEFS NEEDED: Asian actors needed to play Chefs. Male or female, 25
and older.

ACTORS WITH 80'S CARS: If you have a car from before 1989, and can work the
dates, please send email with CAR in subject line. Even if we have used you
and your car previously, please submit again if you available for the dates.

"Kids in America" is a feature film produced by Universal Pictures and
Imagine Entertainment. It is a comedy set in the 80's. The film starts
shooting in the Phoenix area on Feb. 20th and will shoot through April
4th.Payment: All extra roles are $54 for 8 hours. After 8 hours, time and
half.

Shoot Dates are overnights (expect 12 hours or more) March 30th, March 31st,
April 2nd, April 3rd, and April 4th. Don't submit unless you are available
for all dates listed. You could be expected to work any or all of these
dates. Dates are tenative based on production schedule changes. Wardrobe
fitting required. Wardrobe fitting appointments are paid.

To Good for Extra Work?: Consider that most of the stars working on this
film, and other major films I have cast, once did extra work. Extra work
gets you noticed. Unless you are a star or close approaching the heavens,
you should be doing extra work. Frankly, in the Arizona market, there are
few actors who can say they are too good for extra work. That is my opinion
working in L.A. In the Arizona market, nobody is going to look down on you
for being an extra. In fact, I look at it with respect and if someone
impresses me as an extra, it makes me want to help them in their careers.
AND KEEP IN MIND, that extras sometimes get given lines on set and are
bumped up to SAG contracts. On this project, last week, 6 extras were given
lines and bumped up to speaking roles. Now, they have speaking roles in a
major motion picture! Bravo! AND THEY DESERVED IT!

Tucson: Cast and Crew Needed by Young Filmmaker for Feature Action FIlm

From: mclaff9@earthlink.net
Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2007 12:50 PM
To: IFASA Listserv
Subject: [IFASA] Cast and Crew Needed by Young Filmmaker for Feature Action
FIlm

Amanda Sherman, a young aspiring filmmaker who was featured in an article in
the Arizona Daily Star, is shooting a feature film this summer and is
currently looking for cast and crew. Open cast and crew positions are
listed below. Respond to detagamovie@yahoo.com
<mailto:detagamovie@yahoo.com>

Amanda writes:

I want my film to be the greatest. It'll be fun, exciting, and a great
experience! Whether it be that you're looking for some Credit to go on your
Resume, or just looking for a cool thing to do this summer...The most
important thing is that I am able to share my dream with you, and you are
able to get as much out of it that I do.

Myspace.com/detaga is the web page for the site if you are interested in
learning about the film. Production (filming) will be in MAY-JULY of 2007.
Filming here in Tucson for most Interior scenes, but a five day trip to
California on Location is necessary (all actors are going, including extras)

I do cast those younger than 18, in fact, the film is mostly that. Probably
between the ages of 14-21. If you are interested in Auditioning write to me
at detagamovie@yahoo.com (if you wish to speak with me about it, include
your phone number and I will call you as soon as possible)

I want people who are inexperienced and eager to learn...that's mostly what
this film is about...about giving everyone a good start and the experience.
I can handle most of the Technical aspects, as I've done a ton of
study...but just anyone who wants to be involved and wants the experience
and the chance to learn is the right person for me.

Tucson: THE ROGUE THEATRE presents THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN

From: Cynthia Meier [mailto:cindym@theriver.com]
Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:44 AM
Subject: THE ROGUE THEATRE presents THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN

Dear Friends of The Rogue Theatre,

In one short week we open our sixth production, Bertolt Brecht's The Good Woman of Setzuan, based on a Chinese fable in which the gods come to earth in search of a thoroughly good person.

Highlighted with a score by Brecht's friend Stefan Wolpe and beautifully crafted Big Head puppets by Tucson Puppet Works, the play follows the struggles of Shen Te, the gods' chosen "good person," as she attempts to retain what the gods have given her while remaining true to herself.

Guest artist, Patty Gallagher, visiting from UC-Santa Cruz, to perform the role of Shen Te, brings her extensive background in physical theatre, mask performance, Balinese dance and clown traditions to the project. Patty is surrounded by a 16-person ensemble of the lovely Rogue regular players and exciting new performers.

Our production begins with a discounted preview performance on Thursday, March 29, and continues Thursdays to Sundays through April 15. Thursdays to Saturdays, the play begins at 7:30 P.M., and Sundays it begins at 2:00 P.M.

To prepare the way for our journey to Setzuan, the Summer Thunder Chinese Music Ensemble, directed by Paul Amiel, will perform a Musical Preshow of traditional Chinese music, beginning fifteen minutes before curtain.

Performances take place at the Zuzi Theatre, 738 N. Fifth Avenue, at the southeast corner or Fifth Avenue and University Boulevard, in the Historic YWCA.

Regular ticket prices are $17. Our experiment with "Pay-What-You-Will Night" in our last production was such a success that we're offering it again: On Thursdays April 5 and April 12, our Pay-What-You-Will Nights will provide you the option of either a reduced price or an extra donation.

The Good Woman of Setzuan features Jill Baker, Nick Bravin, Leanné Whitewolf Charlton, Jeremy Ellwood, Patty Gallagher, Roxanne Harley, Carolyn Hokin, Art Jacobson, Avis Judd, Joseph McGrath, James Mousigian, Arlene Naughton, James Naughton, Roger Owen, Roberta Streicher and Martie van der Voort. The ensemble is directed by Cynthia Meier, with musical direction by Harlan Hokin.

Click here for complete information on the show, including actor bios, a map to the theatre, information on parking, and a link to our online store where you can purchase tickets.

You may also call us at 520-326-7354 to make reservations or purchase tickets.

We hope to see you at Good Woman!

All the best,
The Rogues

We are taping a mock trial at the University Park Marriott in Tucson on
April 3, 2007. We are bringing all needed equipment but need to hire two
professional camera operators for the day. You will need to have experience
in taping a group of people sitting around a table and deliberating. Same as
taping a focus group. We will be using prosumer cameras and taping to DVD
along with running closed circuit so our clients can view live in another
room. You will need to be available from approx. 12:30pm to 6:30pm and the
pay is $150.00 cash at the end of the day. Lunch will be provided. Please
have experience as a camera operator. You will need to be able to follow the
action, be smooth and use proper framing. We will set-up all the equipment
but you will be operating it all so you need to be knowledgeable in running
video equipment. Please don't be upset if I don't reply, that simply means I
found two operators already. I will remove the ad as soon as the positions
are filled. Thanks and please call or write at:

The Invisible Theatre of Tucson continues its 2006-2007 Theatre Season with the premiere of LETTERS TO SALA by Arlene Hutton.  Every family has its secrets, though few of them have the power both to transform lives and to fill in crucial gaps in world history.  But then, few families have a mother and a daughter quite like Sala and Ann Kirschner.  LETTERS TO SALA is their story. It is based on a treasure trove of over 300 personal letters received by Sala while imprisoned in various Nazi labor camps between 1940 and 1945.  The play illuminates this provocative and profound true story and offers a testament to the triumph of the human spirit,

“The letters tell of a past locked away by a young woman who

hoped never to resurrect it, and of the eventual understanding

between a mother and a daughter.”

The Southern California beach town of Messina in the early 1960’s is the setting for the 20th anniversary Shakespeare in the Park production of the romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. The obvious comparisons between Frankie and Annette’s Beach Movies will arise in this staging of the play. But as with any Shakespeare there’s always more to the story…

Auditions for Much Ado About Nothing will be held at the Randolph Performing Arts Center Auditorium, 300 South Alvernon Way, Friday, March 23rd, 7pm – 9: 30pm, and Saturday, March 24th from 11am – 2pm.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

For more information please call 791-4873 Ext. 125.

All levels of experience are encouraged to audition. There is a special call from the director to any actor involved with previous productions to audition for this special 20th anniversary production.
