Arizona Onstage Productions presents
LOST - a pop opera

Arizona Onstage Productions (Sunday in the Park With George, Elegies, BARK!), presents a new vision of Hansel and Gretel - told with fantastical words, music and images of Appalachian folklore to create a haunting, classically flavored musical both entertaining and unexpected for those seeking unique and daring fare for the Fall season.

The two abandoned youths are welcomed by witch/priestess Mamba and her clan of ghosts, both the mythical and those based on American history, including Ivy, a Salem witch burned at the stake, Silas, a Confederate Soldier shot in the stomach, Little Wing, a Native American whose family, starving after Europeans came, left him to die and Mazy, a black slave who was abused by her Master and Mistress. These are joined by White Fawn, a talking/singing deer and various ghosts/hoodoos from Appalachian folklore, including the Bell Witch, Wampas Cat, Stephen Bishop, Martin Stone and several others straight out of the Tennessee/Kentucky Great Smoky Mountains - legends and oral history.

This 90-minute production features a cast of 25 performers, life-size puppets and orchestra.  During its sold-out New York City run, LOST received unanimously glowing reviews:

"A Sparkling score-perfect!" -The New Yorker

"Extraordinary, brilliant, breathtaking and exhilarating" - NY Theater

Although Tucson-based 31 year-old composer Jessica Grace Wing lost her battle with cancer weeks before the premiere of LOST, she will be remembered for many things, including her part in bringing this dynamic journey of music, folklore, and imagination to joyful life.  Some mature subject matter.

SOME NOTES ABOUT 3 A.M.

Jennifer Copland’s long night of the soul has been updated by the author to 2008 for the benefit of this performance and KXCI. Jennifer Copland lives in Ayr, Ayrshire, Great Britain where she writes for BBC radio and plays for the theater. 3AM was originally performed in the United States at the Geary Street Solo Fest in San Francisco, California, by Michael Fenlason, where the production won a citation of excellence. Fenlason performed the show again in 2000 in Phoenix, Arizona, with The Unlikely Theater Company for the benefit of Art Detour and Planned Parenthood.

SOME NOTES ABOUT LNT @ THE ALLEY!

Although the concept of late night theatre is not new, Beowulf Alley Theatre Company is still young and growing and this program is our newest offering. Our goal of being a community of theatre is also intended to be a bridge to what’s new in theatre, giving voice to the new and young plays and playwrights as well as more established ones. This is not an easy task or one that we take lightly. The story must always come first. Our late night theatre mission is to attract the young, inexperienced theatergoers as well as the curious, open-minded established patron. To do that, we intend to bring stories and topics that are, perhaps, written in a more contemporary style, infusing more contemporary issues and sometimes with dialogue that may seem a little distasteful to a more mature audience. Please join us if you are ready to explore new, sometimes edgy and often a little gritty, plays by some local, talented theatre artists.
