BARTHOLOMEW’S READING ADVENTURE

by Dr. Gillette Elvgren, Jr.

Tucson Festival of Books  March 13-14, 2010

University of Arizona campus

Bart’s mom is frustrated with his lack of interest in reading.  She’s tried everything.  In desperation she takes Bart to the doctor—Doctor Seuss, who succeeds in motivating Bart to read a story.  But if Bartholomew wants to find out what the ending is, he has to jump into the book and become a part of the story.  This production does not use Seuss stories, but does re-create much of the rhyming and high energy zaniness humor that typifies Seuss’ stories.  Through audience participation, Bartholomew learns about the various parts of a story, how they happen, and ultimately appreciates the written word.

In addition to the Festival, Waypoint will be touring this piece to low-income schools in March. Educational sponsor proposals are now being accepted for this education outreach opportunity that promotes reading literacy and love of reading.
