12TH ANNUAL SOLSTICE CELEBRATION “House Made of Light”

ZUZI! Dance Company celebrates the Solstice with modern and aerial dance in a multi-generational performance including professional dancers from ZUZI!’s Dance Company, ZUZI!’s Apprentice Company, ZUZI!'s “Many Limbs” Youth Aerial Company, and members of our annual community workshop.

The word Solstice, means standing still sun. The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year; it marks the turning from the cold dark days of winter to the warmer, lighter days of spring and summer.  Traditionally, this season was used as a time of reflection, renewal and community celebration.

ZUZI! CoFounder and Artistic Director Nanette Robinson and several choreographers including Associate Artistic Director, Beth Braun Miscione and company members Alison Hart, Mirela Roza, Sara Anderson and Karyn Reim are presenting dances.

Unlike a typical dance concert, the dances in “House Made of Light” combine to create a larger experience.  A few of the dances in the performance grew out of the writings and improvisations created during the rehearsal experience, in particular, the community workshop and company dance “Waves of Light” by Nanette Robinson.

Solstice Celebration will be performed on December 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st at 7:30 pm at the ZUZI! Theater located at 738 N 5th Ave inside of the Historic YWCA.  Tickets for this event are $15 general admission and $13 for seniors and students. There will also be a  special matinee on December 11th at 10:30 am.  Tickets for the matinee will be specially priced at $7.

ZUZI! will be hosting a silent auction of donated items including, jewelry, concert tickets, wine baskets, a weekend stay at the Gila Wilderness Lodge and much, much more.

In this season of giving, ZUZI! offers as its gift the magic of movement, creative energy and reflection, the 12th Annual Solstice Celebration “House Made of Light.”
