Arizona Theatre Company and the University of Arizona School of Theatre Arts, Summer on Stage

Reserve now for this intensive five-week actor training program

 

Forty high-school students will learn acting skills from theatre professionals and perform on Arizona Theatre Company's professional stage for Summer on Stage 2010.  Produced by Arizona Theatre Company and the University of Arizona School of Theatre Arts, Summer on Stage is a five-week training program for actors.  A variety of acting fundamentals are taught, including character development, scene and monologue study, voice and movement, and dance techniques.  Training culminates in two fully-mounted productions performed at the Temple of Music and Art, the home of Arizona Theatre Company.


Leading the Education Team for Summer on Stage are:
 
Alison C. Terry (Program Director) is celebrating her fourth season as Program Director for Summer on Stage. As ATC's Education Manager, she has helped create and implement new community engagement and classroom activities for ATC's AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories initiative.  Alison has also successfully led ATC's Open Doors and Student Matinee programs for three seasons. She holds a Master of Arts in Theatre (Education and Outreach Emphasis) from the University of New Mexico, and has worked as an adjunct lecturer at UNM teaching courses in Collaborative Theatre Creation and Acting Techniques. In addition, she managed the UNM Summer Theatre Academy, served as Associate Producer of the Words Afire New Works Festival, and served as a faculty directing mentor for undergraduate students. Directing credits include Friday's Child, In the Wind, Dead Chihuahuas, and Rice for Breakfast.  Upon moving to Tucson, Alison conducted arts integration residencies with 4th and 5th grade teachers and students through Childsplay, Inc. 
 
Samantha K. Wyer (Artistic Director) Ms. Wyer is in her seventh season as Artistic Director for Summer on Stage. As ATC's Associate Artistic Director, Ms. Wyer directed The Lady With All the Answers, It's a Wonderful Life, To Kill a Mockingbird, I Am My Own Wife, Tuesdays with Morrie, Permanent Collection, A Streetcar Named Desire, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Proof, and Wit.  Her Arizona directing credits include The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Leading Ladies, Company, Betrayal, Noises Off!,  The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Angels in America: Millennium Approaches,  at Arizona Repertory Theatre, Still Life, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues  and Two Days of Grace at Middleham, a play she also directed for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.  Ms. Wyer came to Arizona from Kansas City, where she worked as Director of Missouri Repertory Theatre's Playwright's Stage.  Her Kansas City directing credits include To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Shop of Horrors, Buried Child, The Music Manand My Fair Lady. Ms. Wyer also worked at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C. as assistant director for Michael Kahn and Joe Dowling. Ms. Wyer holds a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from University of Missouri and is a member of The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. Ms. Wyer has served as a grants panelist for Theatre Communications Group, Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Tucson/Pima Arts Council. She served as visiting instructor for University of Missouri, Arizona State University, Avila College and The University of Arizona. Ms. Wyer was awarded the Buffalo Exchange Arts Award by Community Foundation of Southern Arizona.
 
Dr. Barbara (Bobbi) McKean (Program Consultant) is the Associate Director and Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Theatre Arts at the University of Arizona.  As Associate Professor, she teaches courses in Improvisation and Collaborative Play Development. Bobbi coordinates Outreach activities for the School of Theatre Arts working with undergraduate and graduate students to provide theatrical experiences with schools and community organizations.  Before teaching at the University level, Bobbi was a professional actress and teaching artist. She was Director of Education at the Seattle Children's Theatre for seven years and served as Artistic Director of the Seattle Peace Theatre, where she directed collaborations with young people and artists from Seattle, Moscow, Russia, Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Zurich, Switzerland.
 
Classes are June 28-July 30, 2010; Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.  Classes will not be held on Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day.  Classes are held at the University of Arizona and the Temple of Music and Art in downtown Tucson.
 
Performance dates are July 28 - 31, 2010 at 7 PM.
 
Early registration cost is $575 with a deadline of May 1.

Regular registration cost is $625 with a deadline of June 1. 

Late registration is $675 with a deadline of June 15.

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Space is subject to availability and registration.
