Shadow Puppetry at Tucson Meet Yourself
Borderlands Theater will present a shadow puppet show at this year's Tucson Meet Yourself Folklife Festival. For the past nine weeks, Borderlands intern/teaching artist, Angelina Duarte-Cooper, has taught an after school shadow puppetry workshop to students at Carrillo Elementary School. The program includes a couple fairy tales and a local story. We are most excited, to offer a shadow adaptation of "El Creciente" by Tucson-author Patricia Preciado Martin. This is the very beginning of the Sonoran Shadows project aimed at presenting shadow plays based on Preciado-Martin's short stories in public parks throughout Tucson. Friday's presentation at Tucson Meet Yourself is part of Borderlands Theater's emerging Youth Shadow Puppetry Initiative. Don't miss this preview of exciting things to come from YOUR Borderlands Theater.
