Old Pueblo Playwrights Next meeting: Monday night, August 28th, 7:00 p.m. - open to all

Good afternoon, OPP Fans! We had a splendid visit with "Dinners with Augie" playwright Scott Charles last week. Many thanks to Scott for his time and willingness to open up about his creative process and about what he's learned from the readings and productions of his play throughout its development. Thanks also to "Augie" actor Jeff Webster, and OPP's Reid Gilbert for helping to set it up. Fun evening!

In the meantime, we've had to do a little shuffling of our reading schedule. Gretchen's "Happy Trees" will have its second reading at a future meeting, so this coming Monday (8/28) we're got a couple of other things planned:

• We’re going to read and discuss the first act of "True West" by the late Sam Shepard. The play was a finalist for Pulitzer consideration in 1983, so it’s probably reasonably good.

• As time permits, we’re going to attempt to answer the question: What is the right way to format a play on the page and what's appropriate to include in stage directions, etc.? The formatting question is one that I’ve scratched my head over a time or two. As to what’s appropriate to include in stage directions: I imagine that could generate all kinds of discussion. OPP colleague Gavin Kayner has already sent in some thoughts on item #2, so we should have some good material to ponder by meeting's end.

Just a head's up: OPP will be DARK Monday, September 4th, otherwise known as Labor Day. We'll be present and accounted for on the preceding and following Mondays (8/28 and 9/11) though. Come down and join us!
