Annual Pub Crawl Celebrates William Shakespeare's Birthday

TUCSON, AZ – 2/28/18 – The Tucson Fringe Festival is proud to present the Fourth Annual Beer With The Bard Shakespeare themed pub crawl, on Sunday April 22nd, 2018.  The first tour begins at 1:00pm at Borderlands Brewing Company and the second tour begins at 2:00pm.  General tickets are $10 and all-inclusive wristbands that include one drink ticket at each venue are $35.  All tickets can be purchased on the festival website, www.tucsonfringe.org.

The festivities begin at Borderlands Brewing Company, then move on to Tap & Bottle, followed by the Royal Room, and ends at The Flycatcher.  Each venue will host scenes from different Shakespeare plays including King Lear, Macbeth, and several monologues.  Time spent at each venue will total approximately 30 minutes and tickets for each tour will be limited.

The combination of Shakespeare and beer is not a new one.  In the Renaissance era, groundlings often enjoyed a hoppy brew while enjoying the latest play from pop sensation William Shakespeare.  A few years back The New York Shakespeare Exchange brought back the idea of hops and heady theatre with their ShakesBeer Pub Crawl through New York.

"We love Beer With The Bard so much, we keep coming back with a bigger group of friends every year.  It's a great way to expand your knowledge of Shakespeare and your familiarity with downtown Tucson.  It's a great time." – Connie Choza, Bard and Beer Enthusiast.

Though there are no records of his birth, William Shakespeare was baptized on April 26, 1564 and he was believed to have been born on April 23, especially since he died on April 23, 1616.  Beer With The Bard occurs annually on the closest weekend to Shakespeare's birthday and death day.

The Tucson Fringe Festival is an unjuried, uncensored performing arts festival. Following international fringe tenets, the festival provides artists with low-risk, low-cost opportunities to perform by using economies of scale to reduce venue rental costs and by taking 0% of the artist's earnings.

Additionally, the festival also provides the Tucson arts community with avant-garde, non-traditional performing arts at low-ticket prices. Finally, the festival does not curate or select the performances, maintaining an environment in which everyone and anyone can perform. This ensures that underrepresented artistic voices are championed in our community.
