Artifact Dance Project is a company dedicated to making dance accessible to our audiences. We encourage you, and as many invited guests as you would like, to come downtown this Saturday. Watch as a collaboration unfolds through the minds and bodies of professional dancers and actors. Be the first to hear the original music written by Lane Harmon and Roger King laying the groundwork for Frida. See how choreographer Ashley Bowman brings movement and emotional content to life. Understand how Artistic Director Claire Hancock and actor David Alexander Johnston interpret two of the world's iconic figures - Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

Only through the working process do we truly discover the final product.

Artistic Director and choreographer Ashley Bowman collaborates with musicians Lane Harmon and Roger King, taking on the life and spirit of the legendary artist, Frida Kahlo. Frida's powerful artwork and complicated journey with her partner, painter and muralist Diego Rivera, influences the original music and movement created for this production. The music, written by Harmon and King, is inspired by Frida's artistically potent self-representations, her playfulness and humor, and her bold and courageous understanding of physical and psychological pain. The choreography fuses contemporary dance with acting. Together, Bowman and Harmon interpret a raw and emotional side of one of the most famous women in recent history. Artistic Director Claire Hancock dances the role of Frida, showing the intensity and deeply human qualities of this iconic woman. Tucson-based and well-known actor David Alexander Johnston plays the part of Diego Rivera. A cast of 10 dancers portray symbols of both Frida and Diego's art. The cast includes Marquez Johnson, Lauren Renteria, Nathanael Myers, Jeff Griffith, Hanna Moreno, Samantha McKinney, Kendra Howell, Lyna Ward, and Carole Mueller. A band of talented musicians performs the music: Heather Hardy on violin, Danny Brito on drums, Mike Levy on bass, Matt Mitchell on guitar, Roger King on guitar and vocals, and Lane Harmon on vocals. As special guests, The Tucson Girls Chorus, directed by Marcela Molina, joins the production. Frida is a collaboration between many artists, provoking thought and universal resonance with original movement and music at its core.
