Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as Musical Director for two main stage productions per year as part of teaching load, which includes score arrangement, contracting musicians, rehearsal accompaniment
  • Create and distribute all relevant paperwork to orchestra musicians
  • Schedule orchestra rehearsals, lead music rehearsals, and conduct performances where needed
  • Attend auditions and callbacks as necessary
  • Serve as classroom accompanist
  • Participate actively in recruitment and promotion of the department
  • Maintain currency in the field
  • Other professional duties as assigned including assisting in Musical Theatre courses
  • Teach on average 1-2 courses per semester
  • Serve as Musical Director for ART Company Performances

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Music and professional experience
  • Three years teaching and/or coaching actors at the university or professional level
  • Three years professional and/or academic musical direction and accompaniment for rehearsal and performance
  • Ability to conduct large and small musical ensembles for musical theatre performance (including piano-conducting).
  • Ability to create orchestrations and arrangements in a variety of musical theatre styles.
  • Excellent musical sight-reading and piano skills.
  • Evidence of active and successful career in major markets and or regional theatres
  • Knowledge of programming electronic keyboards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Music in Music Performance
  • Ability to teach singing and coach students in all periods and styles of musical theatre repertoire.
  • Ability to teach courses in sight singing, theory, piano and ear training
  • Proficient in Finale and Mainstage Software
