About the play
Written by one of the most prolific playwrights of the 20th century, and winner of the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this powerful and brilliant play probes deep into the disintegration of the American Dream. It has had numerous revivals since its premier at The Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Set in rural Illinois in the late 1970s, this family drama is infused with humor that gives it a sardonic, black, and even, at times, slapstick feel.
