The New One Act Play Festival is a yearly competition for Arizona playwrights. Plays are submitted and then scored based on plot, character development, dialogue and overall writing quality. The top 3 scoring plays are selected the winners and the prize is to have the plays produced as full productions.
This years winners are Gavin Kaynor for his play "Misogynistic Shoes". Two strangers - one seeking solace, the other money to care for her daughter - engage one another in a bizarre interlude that challenges propriety. Directed by Mary Davis and Mike Sultzbach.
Michael Singervalt for his play "Kitty". Based on the 1964 murder of Kitty Genovese, a bar manager in New York. Allegedly 38 people heard or saw what happened that night but no one stepped up to help Kitty. This is a fictitious account of a witness as she deals with the fact that she did nothing. Directed by Pat Timm
Susan Hansell for her play "Every Concentrated Fragment". Based on the lives of 4 French women in Paris after the Nazi occupation began. The women were imprisoned and taken to Auschwitz, never knowing if the breath they just took would be their last. Directed by Scott Berg.
