Subject: Chosen Child: a staged reading of a play by Monica Bauer
"I'm launching these letters into the sky, but they seem to just float away. Please write me back."

Chosen Child
by Monica Bauer
Directed by Maria Caprile
March 2nd-3rd, 2019
A schizophrenic man waits in a bus terminal for a sister he barely knows to fulfill a promise that she never made. In Chosen Child, a story of mothers, memories and the ties that may (or may not) bind, an intergenerational family drama plays out over more than six decades.
This staged reading by Tucson playwright, Monica Bauer, plays one weekend only. Her play Vivian's Music recently closed Off Broadway after it was a five star hit at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her plays The Maternal Instinct, The Higher Education of Kahlid Amir, The Real Machiavelli and Brand New Jew have been also received Tucson premieres. Chosen Child was part of the 2014-15 season at Boston Playwrights' Theatre, where it was nominated for an IRNE for Best New Play.
"Playwright Monica Bauer deserves her own blessing for the considerable virtues of her new play "Chosen Child," now in a disarmingly moving world premiere at Boston Playwrights' Theatre. Bauer brings remarkable feeling and intimacy to the exploration of the answers in a play at once both richly mysterious and smartly developed." JULES BECKER, NEW ENGLAND ENTERTAINMENT DIGEST
"Chosen Child" ... it's one of the most poignant, moving and worthwhile dramatic pieces I've seen in a while." SHEILA BARTH, THE THEATER MIRROR
"Boston Playwrights' Theatre has a stunning "family" drama... Bauer cleverly engages the audience... Bauer's compassionate and novel take on the "family" play makes CHOSEN CHILD a must see this season." BEVERLY CREASEY, BOSTON ARTS REVIEW
"Chosen Child is among the best plays I've seen at Boston Playwrights' Theatre... Bauer has reworked and rewritten her very personal story into a compelling memory play which resonates (as she says) with anybody who ever had a mother." NANCY GROSSMAN, BROADWAY WORLD BOSTON
