It's that time of the year again, voting has opened for the Tucson Weekly's Best Of awards.  We work hard to put out a product that we hope you are proud of, and to create comedy that is funny and brings joy to the Tucson Community.  We fall in a category with some heavy hitters that have been apart of the Tucson Community for generally a decade more than we have been.  So it is always an uphill climb, but we appreciate your support of what we do.

Since the nomination forms are open, we have a couple ideas for you.  Most importantly you should write us in for Best Comedy Night all the way on page 11, it's our main category.  We also would appreciate if you write in the Friends of Make Pretends anywhere there is a kids category.  This year we would love to nominate the Cactus Flower Comedy Festival, our all female gender non-binary event that we do each year for best annual festival.  We think it is one of our most unique events, and something we have grown over the past 4 years and are really proud of.  Then in the Best Comedian category, it would be awesome if you nominated an improviser.  At the core we are all comedians, we just decide to express that through improvisation, and in the mainstream people usually think of that category as reserved for stand ups.

We appreciate your continued support.  This weekend will mark 15 weeks since we have been at the theater, and with cases going up, we don't have an opening date in mind.  As of right now we plan to be closed through July, and hope for a better outlook going forward.  Stay safe!

Stand Up 101 (Digital Edition)

Sunday, June 28th with Mo Urban

Learn the art of standup comedy utilizing the TIM philosophy to finding the funny fast. Discover how to nurture true stories into a routine that both engages and entertains your audience. Our experienced instructors will teach you to construct a stage persona, performance mechanics, develop a joke, and create sets this will hit with an audience.

This will be a Digital Correspondence version of the class. Students will get one content module per week including a writing exercise to complete. There will be a weekly class session 1-3pm where students will join a video conference call to chat with their instructor and classmates about the course material and run stand up sets.
