Cast Breakdown:

Cast: 7 men, 1 woman: 8 total (ages 18 – 60)

THE STORY: Jeffrey, a gay actor/waiter, has sworn off sex after too many bouts with his partners about what is "safe" and what is not. In gay New York, though, sex is not something you can avoid. Whether catering a ditzy socialite's "Hoe-down for AIDS" or cruising at a funeral; at the gym or in the back rooms of an anonymous sex club; at the annual Gay Pride Parade, or in the libidinous hands of a father-confessor, Jeffrey finds the pursuit of love and just plain old physical gratification to be the number-one preoccupation of his times—and the source of plenty of hilarity. Suddenly, just after he's reconciled himself to celibacy, Jeffrey's flamboyant friends introduce him to the man of his dreams, who also happens to be HIV-positive. What follows is an audacious and moving romantic comedy with a difference—one in which the quest for love and really fabulous clothes meet, and where unflagging humor prevails even when tragedy might be just around the corner.

Rough Outline of Time Commitment rrehearsal Schedule:

September 1 – October 14 Monday – Friday 5:30 –8:30 Saturdays 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Working with the Director: An Editors Perspective

Tuesday, September 5, 2006 (NEW DATE!)
10am-11:50am in Harvill104 (Second Street- East of Park Avenue)

From a Variety review of Street Thief (edited by Nadav Kurtz):
"From the very first, the artful placement of cameras and the suspenseful
intercutting between long-shot and close-up, as well as the thoughtful jump
cuts, sudden angle-changes and sophisticated montages belie the idea of an
on-the-fly documentary." Ronnie Scheib, Variety, April 30, 2006

with honors from the University of Chicago with a degree in English
Literature and a focus on film theory. His editing and sound design work

Nadav's film editing and directing work has shown at international film
festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival, the L'Etrange Festival in
Paris, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Chicago Underground
Film Festival, and the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. He spent two years
collaborating as an editor, producer, and writer with director Malik Bader
on Street Thief, a feature film that premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film
Festival and played to sold-out crowds. Street Thief is currently in
negotiation for distribution.

Comedy Improv I

at The Studio for Actors

Comedy improv isn't half as hard as it looks when you learn it from a former Saturday Night Live cast member.  Anna Risley gives you the keys: formats, dialects, and structure.  Come play, have a ball, and enjoy discovering how funny you can be.  Also, for acting students, studying comedy improv loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.

This is a four-week course (four consecutive Wednesday evenings).  However, if your schedule prevents you from attending one or two of the sessions, you pay for the classes you miss and then take the missed classes for free when the course rolls around again.  For example, if you must miss night #3, you pay for it and then take night #3 of the next course.  The course typically starts every four weeks.

4 consecutive weeks
Wednesday nights, August 30th through September 20th
6:15-8:30pm at The Studio for Actors

4 week course, $35/week.  Call Anna Risley at 881-2363 for details or to sign up.

This is the foundation course for learning the important building blocks to great performance.  You’ll learn how to break down the script, how to analyze the character, how to play him/her, and most importantly how to mark the script to give a really great audition.  Throughout the course, you’ll have two or three auditions, and you’ll be given lots of information and insightful advice about how to handle the important few minutes before each audition.  This course is not just about auditioning - it’s also a great acting class.

The course is taught by Anna Risley, who has had many speaking roles in SAG Feature Films along with Movies made for Network Television and Miniseries.  (Most of her films were cast and shot in NYC, some in LA, and a few in Phoenix and Tucson.)  Because of her acting experience, she knows exactly what casting directors want at an audition, and what directors hope for from a performance.

This is a six-week course (six consecutive Monday evenings) at $45/week.  However, if your schedule prevents you from attending all of the sessions, you may make up an absence by booking a private session outside of class for $60 for an hour-and-a-half session.

6 consecutive weeks
Monday nights, starting August 28th through October 2nd
6:15-8:30pm at The Studio for Actors in Tucson

$45/week.  Call Anna Risley at 881-2363 for details and to sign up.

Tucson: Waypoint Theatre Company fall preview

From: Melanie David [mailto:davidactsofjoy@earthlink.net]
Sent: Tuesday, August 15, 2006 5:23 PM
Subject: fall preview

Waypoint Theatre Company (WTC) is southern Arizona’s premier faith-based theatre company.  Based in Oro Valley, WTC is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit live theatre organization with a commitment to professionalism and artistically produced entertainment including faith-based, world view productions to southern Arizona communities.  As a producing and training organization, Waypoint seeks to produce quality live theatre that celebrates the joys and traditions of family and community.

Although Waypoint’s company’s name and current structure are new, the steadily growing number of 30+ company members represented by ten evangelical churches have been committed to producing exemplary live theatre productions for over five years.

Waypoint—as defined by Webster’s, is a navigational reference, a stopping place or immediate point on a long journey.  WTC is committed to presenting quality journeys of faith that explore the spiritual dimension of life through drama and humor.  From drama and comedy, to classics and musicals, the broad range of thought-provoking works from Shakespeare and C.S. Lewis,  to American contemporary playwrights such as Larry Enscoe, playwright/artistic director for Lamb’s Players, A.D. Players’ Artistic Director, Jeannette Clift George, and Focus On The Family author/playwright, Paul McCusker, are filled with hope that comes from making life-affirming choices.

Led by President/Artistic Director Melanie David, Waypoint Theatre Company continues working with various faith-based and community organizations based in southern Arizona to evaluate their needs and opportunities for professionally produced live theatre as an effective outreach, as well as providing a quality, family-oriented entertainment source. WTC is dedicated to foster an encouraging environment where individuals can uniquely blend and enrich their Christian faith with artistic gifts.

WTC produced the successful musical comedy, “It’s Christmas and It’s Live!” last December at the Sun City Rancho Vistoso Performing Arts Center, and toured several schools with the anti-bullying educational outreach play, “Biff, Bang, Kapowie!”.  This dynamic, audience-participation piece was also produced at the Boys and Girls Clubs in March with an educational grant from IBM Corporation.

This fall, WTC proudly presents “Footprints of a Pilgrim”, a multi-media dramatic musical presentation of the life of Ruth Bell Graham, wife of evangelist, Billy Graham.  The production will be touring several Tucson churches beginning September 28 through October 8, 2006.  Written by Mrs. Graham, and adapted to stage by professional theatre company, the Lamb’s Players, “Footprints” embarks on the incredible journey of perseverance and strength that offers provocative, and often humorous insights on family relationships and grace.  Admission is free.

Dates and venues include:

Sunday, September 24 @ 6pm, Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church, 8455 E. Tanque Verde Rd.

Sunday, October 1 @ 6pm, Catalina Foothills Church, 2150 E. Orange Grove Rd.

Sunday, October 8 @ 6:30pm, Canyon Del Oro Baptist Church, 9200 North Oracle Rd.

Waypoint will present “Bartholomew’s Reading Adventure” in schools, libraries, and civic organizations in Tucson.  Bartholomew Stead does not like to read.  He says it’s boring, and leaves him snoring.  His mother takes him to the doctor (Dr. Seuss, that is!), who knows how to rhyme, and Bartholomew learns that reading’s an adventure each and every time.  This 45-minute, fun-filled romp with laughter full-blown will inspire children to read and write stories of their own.  Lots of audience participation.  Recommended for Kindergarten through grade 5.  Available for touring beginning November 2, 2006.

Subject: call to actors

Call to Actors

Old Pueblo Playwrights hopes to celebrate our Fifth annual Play In A
Day September 8-9 at the Zuzi Theater with you.

Friday night the audience in a controlled frenzy helps set some of the
rules for our playwrights. Twelve Playwrights randomly bound
overnight into six teams emerge bleary-eyed at 7:00 the following
morning with the fruits of their labor.

Next, six directors (again randomly) are assigned their scripts.

By 9;00 a.m., a pool of actors, the spoons who stir this mischievous
brew, are chosen for the same evening's staged readings.

Many of our acting community's finest have taken part in these
festivities and our hope is that you will too. The commitment is for
one day, the payoff, working and playing with professionals in the
play development community.

Share your talents with us.

Should you have any questions email Jerry Elias at
majinaz2000@yahoo.com or call 886-4444 days or 318-
