Subject: [IFASA] The Loft Cinema - Free Screening of JAWS with
cinematographer Bill Butler

Here's a chance to meet and listen to the wisdom of a very accomplished DP.
In addition to Jaws, his filmography includes The Godfather, Deliverance,
The Conversation, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Grease, Stripes, The
Secret of NIMH, Rocky II, III, and IV, Legal Eagles, Biloxi Blues, Child's
Play, Hot Shots, Sniper, Anaconda, and Frailty. Okay, so I'm repeating some
of what is listed below, but I know many of you won't read that far. There
will also be a presentation by Kodak about their film, so it's a chance to
learn about developments (yeah, yeah) in that medium.

I hope to see many of you there.

EVERYBODY OUT OF THE WATER!
IT'S A FREE SCREENING OF "JAWS"
WITH CINEMATOGRAPHER BILL BUTLER IN PERSON!

Just when you thought it was safe to come to The Loft ... on
Wednesday, November 29th at 7:30 p.m., Kodak and The University of Arizona
Department of Media Arts present a special free screening of Steven
Spielberg's 1975 terror classic, JAWS (in a brand new 35 mm print), at The
Loft Cinema, with the film's legendary director of photography Bill Butler
in person. Preceding the film will be a free Kodak film demonstration at
5:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and donations will be
accepted for the UA Media Arts Kodak 35 mm student film project.

JAWS, screening at The Loft in a pristine new 35 mm print, devoured
box office records upon its release in the summer of 1975, and is considered
to be the blueprint for what we now know as the Hollywood Summer
Blockbuster. It also introduced a young filmmaker named Steven Spielberg to
mass audiences, and ensured that no one who saw it would ever again feel
safe in the water.

Bill Butler, the film's director of photography, has recently been
named Kodak Cinematographer in Residence at the University of Arizona. This
residency program, sponsored by Kodak, connects world-renowned professionals
with film schools in an effort to support educators and enhance the learning
experience of their students. Butler will introduce JAWS and answer
questions about the notoriously-difficult shoot (which encompassed every
nightmare from filming in the middle of the ocean on a leaky tug boat, to
dealing with live sharks and a malfunctioning mechanical shark named
"Bruce").

Bill Butler's long and illustrious career behind the camera as a
respected cinematographer has encompassed some of the greatest films and
biggest blockbusters in Hollywood history, including JAWS, THE CONVERSATION,
ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, GREASE, ROCKY II - IV, STRIPES, DAMIEN:
OMEN 2, CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC, BILOXI BLUES, BIG TROUBLE, CAPRICORN ONE,
DEMON SEED, FRAILTY, and many others.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet one of Hollywood's most
accomplished cinematographers and to see the blockbuster JAWS on the biggest
movie screen in Southern Arizona ... and it's free!
