There are still some tickets left for tomorrow evening’s opening performance of “BeBop Meets Broadway”.  This unique four-show jazz series features some of Tucson’s finest jazz artists exploring the relationship of America’s quintessential art forms, Broadway’s great musicals and classic Jazz.

(Tucson, AZ)— Beowulf Alley Theatre Company will present a Jazz Series “Meet Me Downtown at the Alley: BeBop Meets Broadway” on May 8, 22, June 12 and 26, 2007. The lobby will open at 6:30p and the performances begin at 7:30p. Our theatre is located at 11 South 6th Avenue, between Broadway and Congress. Individual tickets for these Tuesday night events may be purchased for $25.00 each or the entire 4-night series for $80.00.  The proceeds of this fundraising event will benefit the theatre. To purchase tickets on-line, please go to our website at www.beowulfalley.org or call the theatre at (520) 882-0555. The four events will feature Lamont Arthur, Tony Frank and Debby Luna. 

 

Lamont Arthur moved to Tucson in the ‘60s’ and began playing with a variety of groups with many different styles. Although self-taught, his 35 years of experience has made him a sought after and accomplished keyboardist, composer, arranger and producer. His group 'LAPD' performs regularly at Sakura on Wednesdays and Fridays. He is the Minister of Music at Rising Star Baptist Church of Tucson. 

 

Tony is a staple in the Tucson jazz community hosting jams, creating opportunities for musicians, and playing regular gigs at Acacia and Blue Point. The world of jazz has given him the opportunity to work with greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Mantooth, Carl Saunders, Shirley Horn, Mike Vax and countless local pros in Tucson and across the country.  Debbie Luna started learning the Swing-Thing from her mom before she was eight. Though this UA student has primarily worked in construction, truck driving, state parks and medical facilities, she has truly found a place to express her passion of life through jazz and performing.
