Open auditions will be held this Saturday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at  for a short film, Trouble At Hand, which will be used as a Public Service Announcement for the 88-Crime program of the Pima County Attorney’s Office.  The audition location is Art Fare, Studio B (on the 3rd floor), 55 N. 6th Ave. (just north of Congress, across from the Ronstadt Center bus stop).

 

 

There is no pay for this project.  Sorry.  However, it is an opportunity to work with experienced filmmakers on a project to benefit the community.  The film will also be submitted for film festivals and could also be used by other 88-Crime programs elsewhere.

 

 

The director of the film is Dick Fisher, director of the award-winning short film Incident at Alma, which won Best Picture at the Phoenix Black Film Festival, and producer of the breakthrough independent film The Brothers McMullen, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and Independent Spirit Award for Best Feature Film.  Dick’s career in film and television has spanned over 25 years.  Dick is on the board of the Arizona Production Association.

 

 

The producer of the film is Brian McLaughlin, who has produced five feature films, including Red 71, and eight short films, including Alma, which has won various awards including Best Narrative Film at the University Film and Video Association Conference.  He has also acted in over 50 films under the stage name Brian Mulligan.  Brian is on the board of the Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona.

 

 

Trouble At Hand is a film about a middle school student, Gina, struggling with the decision of how to act upon information about another student’s threat on a teacher’s life.

 

 

We are seeking actors for the following principle roles.  Actors do not have to be of specific ethnicities, except to the extent that once Gina is cast, her family members will have to look like the same ethnicity.

 

 

Characters:

 

Gina – a bright, attractive, middle school girl, strong emotional actor

 

 

Dad – Gina’s father, age mid-30s to mid-40s

 

 

Mom – Gina’s mother, age mid-30s to mid-40s

 

 

Jaime – Gina’s younger brother, age 10 to 13

 

 

Keith – troubled middle school boy

 

 

Buddy – Keith’s best friend

 

 

Jesse – Gina’s friend and classmate

 

 

Sally – another one of Gina’s friends

 

 

Teacher – middle school teacher, age mid-20s to 40s, either gender

 

 

Mr. Valdez – middle school teacher, age mid-20s to 40s, strong emotional actor

 

 

Principal – professional-looking, age mid-30s to 50s, either gender

 

 

Operator – voice-over only, female

 

 

No appointments are necessary for the auditions, however you can request a specific time in advance by sending an e-mail to mclaff9@earthlink.net.  Please bring resume and headshots or photo to the auditions, if you have them.

 

 

We will also need approximately 30 extras to play other middle school students in the background.  If you are interested in being an extra, you do not need to audition.  Simply send an e-mail to mclaff9@earthlink.net.
