This funny, tuneful musical about the joy and tribulations of marriage was originally produced on Broadway starting Mary Martin and Robert Preston, who won a Tony Award for his performance. Remounted in 1996 with updated lyrics and music, I DO! I DO! has always been a adored - New York Magazine stated "The score is a delight from top to bottom,†and the Associated Press describes it as “Nothing but sheer pleasure. Yes, yes, pleasure all the way. A Dazzler. Beguiling.â€

Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and bury himself in his books. Enter Rita, a forthright 26 year-old hairdresser who is hungry for education. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms, ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. The play became a hit film with Michael Caine and Julie Walters.
