A CRAZY CONTEST, GEOMETRY AND $100,000,000

Children’s imaginations run free and ideas flow with         Stories that Soar!!

On Friday, February 13th, Stories that Soar! will return to Homer Davis Elementary for the 7th time. Be prepared to see a wildly entertaining show that may include a teacher pizza eating contest with a $100,000,000 grand prize, visions of a “perfect” classroom or a wacky world of geometric shapes.

The performances are interpreted directly from the children’s original stories through music, dance, acrobatics, drama, comedy and more. Since these students have written for the Magic Box every year since Kindergarten and have “grown up” with Stories that Soar!, they have become more creative, imaginative and playful over the years as they come to truly understand the power of their writing. We have also established a strong relationship with teachers and administrators who embrace the program by encouraging creative writing for the Magic Box without imposing the typical grading constraints.

Through their involvement with Stories that Soar!, children understand that their ideas have the power to make change. Our process involves having them write down their original ideas in a format that can be shared with others. Our professional actors then develop the stories into something that teaches, entertains and positively impacts the entire school community. The children understand the connection between their stories and the performance they see, and that they all have this power, regardless of age, race, physical or academic ability.

This performance has been made possible by the Flowing Wells School District, and by the generosity of STS! grant funders: Arizona Commission on the Arts, Tucson-Pima Arts Council, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Target Foundation and the Stocker Foundation.

To witness the magic of a live Stories that Soar! production, please join us Friday, February 13th, 2009 at 8:15 a.m. at Homer Davis Elementary School, located at 4250 N. Romero Road.

Visitors are welcome and encouraged to come see this show as long as they check in at the office.  For more information, please visit www.storiesthatsoar.org.
