BECOME A BOOKPAL- Give back to kids in your community
BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools), a nationwide program of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, is an organization of enthusiastic actors, theater students, educators, and community members who volunteer their time to visit classrooms on a weekly basis to read aloud to kids for an hour (1/2 hr per classroom). These are children in high-risk, disadvantaged schools who may have no one at home to read to them. You will make a BIG difference in their lives.
Using your talents as an expressive reader, you can bring stories to life. You can take words from the page and create worlds! Here’s a chance to practice your creative skills and talents, while giving back to your community in a way that is uniquely yours.
Don’t worry, training and book lists are provided. You will be treated to many unexpected rewards and the most appreciative audience ever!
Visit the BookPALS web site at www.bookpals.net to see what our 6 branches are doing across the country and to sign up.
