The Understudy
Audition Dates: May 7th , 12pm-6pm
Synopsis:
New York City, 1938 - Opening night of the new musical, Helen Keller: The Musical! Kate Lovelace knows she won’t be going onstage. Instead she’ll wait in the wings and watch her idol, recluse thespian Rose Fairwell tread the boards. When Kate is presented with a lethal opportunity, she decides to take fate into her own hands and kill Rose to become the star and no longer be the understudy.
Characters:
Kate Lovelace: 19-25 years old
Kate would kill to be the greatest actress in the world, so she does. This unassuming sociopath’s naiveté puts her in way over her head. She must balance a show-stopping performance with sly body disposal. Requirements: Singing and dancing.
Rose Fairwell: 35-50 years old
Greta Garbo has got nothing on this legend. As the greatest actress in the world, Rose expects to be treated as such. A no nonsense broad, Rose’s unstable, eccentric behavior keeps everyone panicked, nauseous or suicidal. Rose’s flair for the dramatics leads to her demise.
Tony: 35-60 years old
As stage manager Tony is the eyes and ears of the theatre. This snarky, hard-ass knows everyone’s secrets and is the sanest person in the theatre, which it isn’t saying much with this bunch of misfits. When Rose goes missing, Tony’s paranoia increases ten-fold, as does his four-letter word vocabulary.
Maynard Kingston Price: 35-50 years old
The top agent in New York Price only surrounds himself with the best, which is why he nabbed Rose Fairwell, personally and professionally. “The Shark of Broadway” fancies himself to be a Clark Gable/Cary Grant hybrid and always gets what he wants by flashing a smile.
