Casting Information:
New theatre company forming in Tucson. Producing evening of three one acts as first endeavor.
Theatre Harmony Ensemble, a producing and directing theatrical company, formed over thirty years ago, whose credits include long running shows in Los Angeles and New York has relocated to Tucson.
Their first endeavor is a series of three original one acts to be produced in cooperation with the Comedy Playhouse July 25 – 27. Rehearsals will be varied pending cast schedules. Auditions will be by appointment. Please send all submission electronically to michaelcandela33@gmail.com. Also looking for a two directors. Those positions carry a small stipend. All three one acts will run in tandem from July 25 – 27. The plays will be staged but have relatively short running time with the exception to "Letter from Cowboy".
Casting breakdown are as follows:
Gun Play (Comedy)
In the dark of night, on a deserted street, in a not-too-safe neighborhood, a young would-be mugger appears before his intended victim, a woman in her forties, who is returning home after taking an emergency flight to another city. He claims to have a gun, she disbelieves it. He quickly proves he is not up to the task he has chosen, while she as quickly shows she is not easily intimidated. They exchange biographies, more or less. It also becomes clear that she knows much more about guns than he does. When he does decide, however, that he has heard enough and demands again money from her, the situation takes an unexpected turn.
Emma Frisky: 35 – 45. A bit of a character, she almost has the appearance of a bag lady. She can be short or tall, thin or a tad round, but what she isn't is sexy. Eccentric, and a little flakey looking, when the chips are down, she's much more on top of thing than she appears. Not easily frightened, Terry's in for a bit more than he bargain for when he tries to rob her.
Terry Gray: 17 -25. Tall, can be thin, or slightly overweight. He speaks in a menacing voice, but very quickly we realize that he is no robber. He barely knows how to hold a gun. Within minutes of the robbery it is Emma who beings to terrorize Terry.
MEANTINE, UP IN INWOOD (Romantic Comedy):
Two lonely people, one male, one female, struggling to make it in an indifferent world, are brought together by chance. While their problems are not exactly similar, nor is how they deal with them much alike, their loneliness is the same, and a bond is formed, however brief the relationship.
Mildred Conover: 35-45. An unmarried woman who lives on the upper east side of Manhattan, Mildred has lived this life style for most of her life. She is not rich, but obviously comes from a cultured background. She was never quite beautiful enough to marry well. She has style and class and probably came from upper middle class parents in a small, but seclude Connecticut town. Now her life is the ballet and the opera and other cultural events that she always attends alone.
Arnold L. Chomiac: 35 – 55. Arnold is the exact opposite of Mildred. He is your average, work a day, slightly educated, but works with his hands, common man. Arnold is not overly handsome, not really overly anything, but honest. He might work as a plumber or an electrician. He is on his first blind date in years but accidently knocks on the wrong apartment door. But for Arnold, it is the door of destiny.
*note, would love to cast a real couple. Age isn't as important as their connection onstage.
A LETTER FROM COWBOY (Drama):
A wayward son, away from home for two years, and with a history of rebellion and non-conformity, writes his father that he wishes to return to the family. The father is overjoyed, and makes plans for receiving a reformed son, who might in time prove himself as worthy as the father's other son, who never strayed. The father, however, is in for a surprise upon the arrival of the assumed prodigal.
David Bacone: 60's to 70's, short and portly, owner of Bacone Motors, an auto and truck dealership in the high country of Northern Arizona. A long-time ambitious, competitive man, he underwent a change starting some two years ago, since then preoccupied, sullen, disinterested, due to his younger son leaving home and remaining out of touch. He pines for his son's return around the clock.
Edward "Eddie" Bacone: David's older son, mid 30's to mid-40s, tall and too thin, under stress from picking up the slack from his father in running the family business. He does so without complaint, goes about doing what he feels is his duty. He is an unassuming person, even uninteresting to others, but does not allow that to deter him from his commitments in life.
Irene Bacone: Eddie's wife, mid 30's to mid-40s, short but trim, a dedicated wife, mother and home-maker. She worries over many things, without being obvious about it, especially concerning her husband's well being. She is loyal, supportive of those she cares for, always available to help maintain what she feels is an organized and effective lifestyle.
Stella Bacone: David's wife, mid 50's to mid to late 60's, but appears older than her years. She is not a well woman, or so she is convinced. Her varied health complaints are endless, taking up so much of her time. She has largely, by this time, withdrawn from family life, and is treated accordingly, so that little serious attention is paid her.
Eugene "Cowboy" Bacone: David's younger and wayward son, age early 30s. A man of poor character, who has given himself over to rebellious and profligate living since his teens, bringing heartache to his father, rejection from other family members. He likes to believe he can make it on his own, but cannot. He takes the easiest path through life, which often has meant the path to trouble and failure.
Faye Grayon: Age 25- 35, but with lots of mileage on her already. She is not too bright, totally unaccomplished, foolishly outspoken, and in no way a modest girl. She dotes on Cowboy, receives little in return from him apart from physical attention.
