"White Moon Dances" at Metal Arts Village

Thursday, November 6th, 2014

5:30 PM

Metal Arts Village Sculpture Garden
3230 N. Dodge Blvd
Tucson, AZ 85716

Due to inclement weather, last week's "White Moon Dances" were postponed until the next full moon, which will be Thursday, November 6th. Also, because of shortened daylight hours, we've bumped the performances up to begin at 5:30 PM

ZUZI! Dance Company presents "White Moon Dances" in the Sculpture Garden of Metal Arts Village. The evening will begin at 5:30 with roving improvised performances by members of ZUZI! Dance Company, ZUZI! Apprentice Company, and ZUZI!'s "Many Limbs" Youth Company. At 6:00, dancers will perform a short piece combining site-specific choreography and improvisation, inspired by the work of Trisha Brown, the first female choreographer to receive the coveted MacArthur "genius" award. Brown is renowned for her contributions to the development of the "release" technique, the incorporation of design and technology in her choreography, and her unusual collaborations with visual artists and avante-garde composers. In that spirit, ZUZI! Dance companies will be performing with local musicians, Glenn Weyant and Pablo Peregrina.

Taproot Productions with ZUZI! Dance Company present:

The Migration Project

November 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $18, general admission. $15 for students, seniors and military.

at the ZUZI! Theater in the Historic Y

738 N. 5th Ave. Tucson, AZ 85745

Playwright Eugenia Woods weaves together stories of 5 central characters from Mexico, The Hopi Nation, China, Zimbabwe, and one composite character representing the voices of refugee women from Iraq, Egypt, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The play examines what compels these characters to leave home, what they are forced to leave behind, and how they attempt to create a new home in a foreign land.

Director Marc David Pinate of Borderlands Theater and Choreographer Nanette Robinson of ZUZI! are partnering in creating the physical language of the play, set against Artist/Scenic Designer Wesley Creigh's sculptural installation.

Opening night is free thanks to a generous grant from the Tucson Pima Arts Council. Tickets will be offered on a first come-first serve basis with project participants receiving priority seating. Donations are welcome.

Ticket reservations may be made by email at themigrationprojecttucson@gmail.com or by calling 520 975 4021..

Subject: IFA Adds $2,000 in Prize Money to Best Actor Awards

To acknowledge that so much great acting in Arizona goes without any monetary compensation, Independent Film Arizona has elected to add $2,000 in prize money to accompany it's Best Actor Awards.  $1,000 will be given to the recipient of the award for best male actor and an additional $1,000 will be given to the recipient of the award for best female actor.

Anyone can nominate an actor for the best actor awards by sending the actor's name and the actor's e-mail address to independentfilmarizona@gmail.com.  The only eligibility requirements are that the actor either lives or has worked in Arizona.

Nominations will close on Friday, October 31 at Noon.  So get your nominations in now.

From the nominations, a panel of judges will select 10 finalists.

At Independent Film Arizona's Monday, November 3 Meeting, (7 PM at Connect Workspace, 33 South 5th Avenue, Tucson at 7 PM) -- IFA's membership will vote  from the list of finalists to select two winners (one male and one female).  The winners will be announced and the prize money will be awarded at the meeting.  (It's all about immediate gratification.)

We hope you come to the November 3 IFA Meeting (7 PM at Connect, 33 South 5th Avenue, Tucson) to vote for best actor and find out who will win the best actor awards.  There will be a presentation on ultra-low budget filmmaking (while the votes are being counted) and after the awards are announced you will have an opportunity to watch the US premiere of the film Ambiguity (which was shoot in Guatemala and in Tucson).  All IFA meetings are free and open to all.

The public's never-ending fascination with detective stories stretches at least as far back as the 19th century, and continues today. This series of detective films and TV shows presents examples of the classic detective, but also branches out to include broader definitions of "detective," as well as exciting mysteries from countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia. Attend the series, and you may find your own definition of "detective" changing...and you may discover a new favorite film, or two.
Have FUN and enjoy a brief presentation by a School of Theatre, Film & Television faculty member just before the screening.

The great British gentleman detectives - Sherlock Holmes...Hercule Poirot...Inspector Morse - all exude integrity, competence and charm. For this screening, we look at something completely different as we explore the darker side of the British detective genre through Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald (played by Robbie Coltrane), a police psychologist, who is excellent at working his way into the minds of criminals, but is himself a wreck. In the series Cracker, Coltrane's Fitz demonstrates British TV's sophisticated confrontation of questions of morality and decency.
