“Brotha Sistah H.O.O.D. - Honoring Our Own Darkness”
Our 2017 Black History Month Celebration takes our audience to an African Ancestral Spirit through Choreo-Proverbs, Dancin’ and Struttin' Vernacular Scenarios, Island Medleys and Conscious Raising Spoken Word con mas Baile. Allowing audiences to participate, follow along and enjoy the richness that laid the foundation and gave credence to the meaning “Sense of Community”.
This in-depth and innovative celebration of people, culture, history and wisdom is inspired by a new awakening of historical facts acknowledging contributions of people of African descent. Very much like the movie “Hidden Figures” gives a new face by responding to important behind the scenes work of the Black Women that greatly contributed to America being the first to land on the moon.
By recreating Ol’ Fashioned Carnival Games and making them new and informative Barbea Williams Performing Company engages our audience in an Afrikan Arts Carnival with Dance, Song & Storytellin’… Music mixed with a lot of Kulture, Knowledge y LOVE…
