REMINDER: AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) (REVISED)

ARIZONA ROSE THEATRE

Arizona Rose Theatre will continue with open auditions on May 20 for

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (Revised), to run

for nine performances between Feb. 29 and March 15, 2020.

Complete Works is a hilarious riff on Shakespeare, theater, world events,

and virtually everything in life that can bring laughter, with extended

"outtakes" from Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, and variously shorter stops

at all of the Bard's 35 other plays. Complete Works has

played to critical and audience success across the world.

The play is generally presented with a cast of 3, usually but not necessarily male.

What it needs, most importantly, are quick-witted and facile actors who can go

seamlessly from character to character, mood to mood, memorized lines to improv,

and interact spontaneously with the other cast members and the audience.

Familiarity with Shakespeare and the ability to deliver clear sounding iambic

pentameter in a British dialect is helpful but not mandatory. So is the ability to do

farce and go "over the top" when called for. Also of interest are special talents like

juggling, walking on your hands, playing the kazoo, or speaking in dialects, all of

which can be woven into the performance.

Because of the substantial rehearsal commitment (roughly 8 weeks), Arizona Rose

will be offering competitive stipends to the cast, and has committed to first rate

production values for costumes, set, tech and props.

The audition will take place Monday May 20 from 6-9 pm, at the Arizona Rose

theater which is in the Tucson Mall, just behind the Container Store. Please bring a

hard copy resume and head shot. Actors are encouraged to remain for the entire 3

hour block so that we can see everyone in different roles and different possible

configurations of the cast.

No roles have been pre-cast or promised, and in part the final selections will be

based on a cast that fits together best in an overall way to do the work justice —

not just three great actors but a terrific ensemble. There may be callbacks. Our goal

is to have a complete cast by early June, get scripts out over the summer, and move

into rehearsals right after New Year's.

Mark Klugheit will direct. Please email mail azrosetheatre@gmail.com to notify us

that you will be participating, or with any questions. Sides are now available from

the director at mklugheit@comcast.net
