Subject: New & seasoned performing artists invited to submit for Etcetera Late Night Series
New and seasoned performing artists are invited to submit by July 1, 2019, original scripts and project/show proposals for Live Theatre Workshop's 2019-2020 Etcetera Late-Night Series. Email scripts or proposals to: etcetera@livetheatreworkshop.org
Etcetera shows have a short run, typically one or two nights and occupy the late-night slot (10:30pm Saturday night and 7:00 Sunday night) in the Live Theater Workshop lineup. Each performance is approximately one hour long, and in the spirit of being accessible to the community, tickets are $10. Producers and artists are paid a stipend, and the goal of this Series is to unify us through shared experiences.
"We are looking for short plays that are thought-provoking, reflect the Tucson community and our ideas and experiences. Devised theatre pieces and multi-media performances are encouraged. The quirkier, more original, more creative, more controversial, the better," says Maryann Green, who curates the three shows in the Etcetera season and is a long-time member of the LTW family in various capacities.
Examples from previous seasons
· The Audubon Field Guide To Assholes I've Dated: part documentary, part history lesson, part improvisation, part storytelling, all painfully hilarious.
· Reasons: The House Burned Down: This was a piece of "telephone theatre" in which actors weren't given a script. They received a video of the previous production of the play and were invited to shape the performance to suit their needs and vision.
· Identity: a piece of devised theatre (in which the actors help shape the script and performance) using dance, music, interviews with Tucsonans and personal experiences to spark a discussion on why we're drawn to the groups of people we're drawn to.
· Abeyance: a microphoned-mimed, one-man physical comedy show.
· Unkept Secret: a fully improvised one-hour drama in the style of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
