URGENT MESSAGE FOR TUCSON CITY ARTS ADVOCATES!!!
The Tucson City Council will consider funding for arts and culture at a
public budget hearing today, Tuesday May 6, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will
take place at City Hall, 255 W. Alameda.
While the City Manager has recommended level funding for the arts ($691,030
to Tucson Pima Arts Council), we still face a very real risk of budget cuts
due to the strong lobbying and advocacy of other groups for budget increases
such as police, fire, parks, libraries, etc. YOU know how important these
funds are to arts organizations and the city council needs to hear from you!
To help insure the continued support for arts and culture in Tucson, please
try to attend the meeting and encourage others to attend. If you are unable
to attend, place a call to your city councilmember asking that they preserve
support for the arts - tell them that the arts contribute to the vitality
and economy of the city and that many great non-profit organizations count
on the city's support.
Find contact information for your councilmember and look-up your city
council district at http://www.tucsonaz.gov/mcc.html.
Pass this message along to your arts friends and advocates to help insure
members of the Tucson City Council understand the importance of the arts to
our community!
