Around the world Carnaval, or "Carnival," is a celebration of community and diversity, with enormous street festivals, vibrant colors, irresistible drumming and endless dancing. On February 21 the second annual Tucson Carnaval will take place in Armory Park, with the theme "Many Voices, One Song." Our goal is to create a festival that showcases the people, music, flavors and diversity unique to Southern Arizona.

The day will feature a lively parade, food and arts vendors, family-friendly activities in Armory Park and the Tucson Children's Museum, a raffle with fantastic prizes, and amazing live entertainment throughout the day. Performers will include Batucaxe, Odaiko Sonora, Capoeira Malandragem, Flam Chen, the Human Project, Jovert, Key Ingredients of African Soul, Mariachi El Quinto Sol, and Zafiros Flamenco Ensemble. The day will culminate with a finale involving all of the groups playing together, with more than 200 drummers and dancers. It will be a ground-shaking, soul-moving afternoon, and we hope you can be part of it.

When: Saturday, February 21, 2009, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (parade at noon)

Where: Armory Park Neighborhood and Community Center, 220 S. 5th Avenue, Tucson

Cost: Free. However, we will be accepting donations for the Community Food Bank throughout the day, so please bring non-perishable food items.
