From the creative mind behind “Lend Me a Tenor” comes a zany comedy complete with money, motivation, and mistaken identities.  When a pair of broke Shakespearean actors discover a dying millionaire who wants to leave her estate to her long-lost relatives, they decide to pass themselves off as the heirs, only to find that the nephews are really nieces.  With some creative costuming, the actors transform themselves, trying to fool the family, but things prove difficult when they become fools in love and risk forfeiting their façade.

"Ken Ludwig's 'Leading Ladies' is a guilty pleasure—a farcical romp meant to tickle the funny bone of those who see it," says guest director Samantha Wyer.  "Take eight larger-than-life characters, six slamming doors, three hasty engagements, two out-of-work Shakespearean actors disguised as females and one three million dollar inheritance; it all adds up to a night of pure frivolity and fun."

Wyer is currently the Associate Artistic Director/Education Director at Arizona Theatre Company.  Her past directing credits for ART include “Company,” “Betrayal,” “The Philadelphia Story,” “Noises Off!,” “Rumors,” “Three Sisters,” “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches,” and “Arcadia.”  She holds an MFA in Directing from the University of Missouri and is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Mature themes.

Audience Enrichment: Learn more about “Leading Ladies” through an exciting pre-show discussion, which is free and open to the public.  March 12 at 6:45 p.m.; check signage in the Tornabene Theatre lobby for discussion location.  Guest speakers will lead an exciting dialogue where you can get behind-the-scenes information about the production.
