Tucson: Auditions for "Give My Regards to Broadway", Casa Grande

From: DOCTOR DOOWOPP [mailto:drdoowopp2@yahoo.com]

Subject: Cameo Performing Arts Group announces Auditions for "Give My Regards to Broadway"

Dick Foster is opening a Broadway show but is having problems with both money and his leading lady. Enter Mary Collins, an aspiring actress from New Rochelle, plus "Legs" Ruby, a Damon Runyon-type bookie who is on the run from the mob. Just as all appears lost, a financial "angel" appears with the money to do the show, and Mary gets her big chance at stardom. The play is filled with fascinating character roles, including the "Donald O'Connor-type" pianist, Betty, the Virginia belle in the chorus, along with a bevy of chorus girls, gangsters and other assorted characters. This is an extremely exciting play.

IMPORTANT!!! The auditions will be held at Heritage Hall Florence Blvd and need to be next Saturday & Sunday (Feb 6 & 7) at 1:00pm. . Auditioners will need a song, preferably a big band type song - acapella only, no accompaniments cd's. They will also need to read a portion from the script. Show dates are April 9, 10 & 11. Rehearsals start Feb 15 & go through all of March

For More Info call Christine @ 520-371-0222 or Victor 480-330-2681

Make-Up:  Do you have skills in (or a high desire to learn) special effects make-up?  We will need a few additional make-up artists to work under our Make-up Manager for this production.

Production will be shot on HD Video with professional equipment.

Tucson: ATC Offers Free Community Engagement Activities with American Classic, THE GLASS MENAGERIE

From: Arizona Theatre Company [mailto:info@arizonatheatre.org]
Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 1:20 PM
Subject: Press Release: Arizona Theatre Company Offers Free Community Engagement Activities with American Classic, THE GLASS MENAGERIE

ARIZONA THEATRE COMPANY OFFERS FREE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES WITH AMERICAN CLASSIC, THE GLASS MENAGERIE

Arizona Theatre Company's third year of the AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories series will be held in conjunction with its production of Tennessee Williams' THE GLASS MENAGERIE. This season ATC will offer, in addition to a regularly scheduled series of post-performance discussions, and pre-performance talks, other free activities including a contest about "finding your voice" which will culminate in a graffiti/spoken word event, a reader's theatre experience, an acting workshop, and a glass blowing demonstration. All events are free and open to the public.

Arizona Theatre Company's production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE is sponsored in part by The Stonewall Foundation in Tucson and JP Morgan Chase in both Tucson and Phoenix.

Considered by many to be Tennessee Williams' greatest play, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, is an achingly beautiful story of longing and love that has touched generations of theatergoers with its delicate story of romantic dreams and shattered illusions. THE GLASS MENAGERIE plays at the Temple of Music and Art in downtown Tucson from February 27 through March 20, 2010 and at the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix from March 25 through April 11, 2010.

Now in its third year, AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories is a five-year initiative for Arizona Theatre Company. Each year, ATC will produce one classic American play dealing with aspects of the American experience, and will include plays that examine social, personal and political issues still relevant today. To encourage a diverse group of participants to add new voices to the conversation, ATC will offer free supplemental community activities tailored to each classic production.

"Finding Your Voice" Contest and Lobby Display

The characters in THE GLASS MENAGERIE are on journeys to "find their voices." ATC invites community members, students and patrons to submit stories on the theme of "finding your voice." The writings will become part of a lobby display and will be part of the Voice and Vision events in each city. For more information, contact Jenny Bazzell, Literary Manager at jbazzell@arizonatheatre.org or visit arizonatheatre.org.

Voice and Vision: A Graffiti/Spoken Word Explosion
Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 3 PM in the Courtyard of the Temple of Music and Art

The collected stories about "finding your voice" will burst forth during an event where ATC staff and volunteers will read them aloud as four talented artists paint a graffiti-art mural ignited by the stories they hear, as well as their own personal tales.

Reader's Theatre
Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 12 PM during the Food for Thought series at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library

Join Arizona Theatre Company as we bring scenes from THE GLASS MENAGERIE to life by inviting members of our community to portray the characters in the play, under the guidance of trained acting professionals.

The Actor's Lab
Saturday, March 20 from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Rehearsal Hall of the Temple of Music and Art

This workshop will use scenes from THE GLASS MENAGERIE to teach participants to analyze the written words of the playwright in order to clarify character choices, objectives and conflicts, and to understand these critical aspects of character development. For registration information, contact Alison C. Terry at aterry@arizonatheatre.org .

Glassblowing Demonstration
Saturday, March 20 at 2 PM at Sonoran Glass Art Academy, 633 W. 18th Street.

Watch as local glass artists teach us about the process of glassblowing and flameworking. (A limited number of spaces are available to try your hand at glassblowing after the demonstration.) Please RSVP to Alison C. Terry at aterry@arizonatheatre.org.

From Page to Stage
Saturday, March 20 at 1 PM at the Temple of Music and Art

A pre-show event where patrons can learn from ATC Properties Master Paul Lucas how THE GLASS MENAGERIE went from the literary page to the Arizona Theatre Company stage.

Post-Show Discussions
Tuesday, March 9 following the 7:30 PM performance
Wednesday, March 10 following the 7:30 PM performance
Wednesday, March 17 following the 2 PM performance

Ask questions of the show's cast and ATC staff in this open-format discussion.  All post-show discussions take place at the Temple of Music and Art.

Prologue: A Pre-Show Talk
Saturday, March 6 through Saturday, March 20 at the Temple of Music and Art

Join us one half-hour before each performance and learn more about THE GLASS MENAGERIE from a member of the show's cast or crew. You'll hear about the play, its history and the process involved in its creation.

Tucson: seeking pre-production help for film about a Russian fairy tale

From: baker.gavin1983@gmail.com
Sent: Monday, January 25, 2010 12:01 PM
Subject: For Post: Russians!

Russian Community:

I am presently writing a screenplay about a Russian fairy tale.  I am seeking Russian actors, translators, film-makers...anything Russian.  I know this may sound a little ridiculous but I have been having trouble finding a Russian community here in Tucson in order to do some of my research.

I am working with IdeaBox Films.  The production is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer.  The production team would give all interested actors or narrators an opportunity to audition for their help in the process.

Please contact: baker.gavin1983@gmail.com if you are interested or have any information that could help in researching Russian traditions and culture.

Tucson: Bisbee's Obscure Productions presents Urinetown: The Musical

Urinetown: The Musical
presented by Bisbee's Obscure Productions

Urinetown, the Musical
by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann
Friday and Saturday - Jan 29 & 30, Feb. 5 & 6 - 7:30pm
Sunday - Jan 31 & Feb 7 - 3:00pm
Tickets: $12 in advance / $15 at the door
Performed at:
Central School Project 43 Howell Avenue, Bisbee, AZ

“Urinetown” is a sardonic, silly and thoroughly tongue-in-cheek production. The premise; a 20-year drought has made private toilets unthinkable. Everyone must pay to use a “Public Amenity,” and you can’t use the bushes. Punishment is banishment — to Urinetown. The amenities are owned by the corrupt Caldwell B. Caldwell, whose daughter, Hope, falls in love with the poor and rebellious Bobby Strong. Tragedy and triumph ring through the great songs in styles that hark to all the best in songwriting, great jokes, and a compelling, suspenseful storyline.

“Urinetown” was born in Chicago, discovered in NYC’s Fringe Festival and was a hit on Broadway. It was nominated for an impressive 10 Tony Awards, winning for Best Book, Score, and Direction. It also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical.

Tucson: SWEETHEART VALENTINE'S DANCE presented by the Tucson Jazz Society

From: write2ck [mailto:write2ck@aol.com]
Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 10:02 AM
Subject: SWEETHEART VALENTINE'S DANCE Press Release

January 22, 2010; FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For further information, call 520-903-1265 or visit www.tucsonjazz.org

Candy may be dandy, but on Valentine?s Day an even better way to get your sweetie in the mood is take her dancing. More specifically, to the Sweetheart Valentine?s Dance presented by the Tucson Jazz Society at the J.W. Marriott Starr Pass Resort, 3800 W. Starr Pass Blvd., on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

Big Band Express is taking over the bandstand, 16 swinging musicians led by drummer/singer Tom Patrick, with “In the Mood” on their playlist. They've got the charts for all those other classic dance favorites from the big band era, as well.

The band?s resume includes centerpiece gigs at the Oro Valley Jazz Festival, the Tubac Arts Festival, Tucson's own Silver & Turquoise Ball and many New Year's Eve blowouts at the Tucson Convention Center.

Standing out front of this good time machine is Crystal Stark, the bright-eyed singer known for her enthusiastic delivery of hits from the rock, blues and soul genres. She was one of the finalists in the fifth season of TV?s “American Idol.”

Together, the big band and the singer will fill the Starr Pass ballroom with great dance music from the past 60 years. To get everyone started off on the right foot, DANZON! School of Dance will present a swing dance demonstration and offer a free dance lesson at 7 p.m.

So polish up those dancing shoes and get a romantic corsage for your date. Since Saturday is Valentine?s Eve, it's a great chance to stretch Valentine?s Day into a 36-hour celebration.

Fixed price dinners are available at the resort?s Primo Restaurant and Signature Grill, with complimentary champagne. The dining rooms, including Catalina BBQ Company, open at 5 p.m. There are drink specials and free chocolate truffles after the show at Primo.

Sweetening the opportunity for a getaway weekend and Valentine?s Sunday, ticket holders for the Sweetheart Dance also qualify for a special room rate of $159 plus taxes. These TJS overnighters will also get a 20 percent discount on the resort?s golf and spa treatments.

Tickets are $25 non-members, $20 TJS members, with seating at tables for 10. More intimate VIP tables for two are $125 general public, $100 for TJS members.

For details and reservations to the TJS Sweetheart Valentine?s Dance, call 520-903-1265 or visit www.tucsonjazz.org. To make room reservations call 888-527-8989 or go online www.jwmarriottstarrpass.com. For Starr Pass restaurant reservations, 520-792-3500.

Hello,

My name is Adam Valencia. I am a senior film student at the University of Arizona. I am currently in post-production on my thesis: a western called "THE BIG JOB." It was shot last November at the legendary Old Tucson Studios.

I am in the process of casting an actress for a new scene that has been added to the beginning of the film.

The role is very important. The age range is 20's - 30's.

I promise you, and other actors can attest to this fact: the on-set experience will be of the utmost professional quality, you will be treated with respect, and with the due diligence that the performance deserves.

I eagerly await your response, and look forward to meeting and discussing this role with you.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

-- Adam Valencia
