“Urinetown” is a sardonic, silly and thoroughly tongue-in-cheek production. The premise; a 20-year drought has made private toilets unthinkable. Everyone must pay to use a “Public Amenity,” and you can’t use the bushes. Punishment is banishment — to Urinetown. The amenities are owned by the corrupt Caldwell B. Caldwell, whose daughter, Hope, falls in love with the poor and rebellious Bobby Strong. Tragedy and triumph ring through the great songs in styles that hark to all the best in songwriting, great jokes, and a compelling, suspenseful storyline.

“Urinetown” was born in Chicago, discovered in NYC’s Fringe Festival and was a hit on Broadway. It was nominated for an impressive 10 Tony Awards, winning for Best Book, Score, and Direction. It also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical.
