A dance hall is a space/ballroom for dancing. Popularized in the first half of the 20th century, dance halls existed in most towns and cities in the Western U.S., preceding nightclubs and discos. Some were open air...

We'll make our own desert dancehall. Early in the morning. On the (almost) birthday of the National Park Service. To commemorate the saguaro cactus and the preservation of public lands.

We'll do a simple choreography and improvise in duet with a saguaro.
You don't have to be a trained/experienced performer to participate!

The event will be captured on video and in photographs, and may also be incorporated into future Standing with Saguaros performances in the Park this fall (Nov. 11, 12, & 13).

Participant requirements:

  • Enjoy being out in the desert at sunrise.
  • Wear formal dress (gown, dress, suit, or tux with hiking boots or sneakers :))
  • Follow simple choreography.
  • Be willing to improvise.
  • Attend ONE (1) information session/rehearsal at La Pilita (420 S Main Ave.) on:
    Sunday, August 21, 10am-12noon
    Monday, August 22, 6:30-8:30pm
